EDWARDS CO, Ill.—Just when you think things can’t get any weirder in southern Illinois, little old Edwards County is seeing bomb threats, this time at the school.
We’ve have actual bombs found here in Edwards in recent years, created by people who ultimately went to prison for it or for peripheral crimes. No one really ever said why these criminals were making bombs. The unsaid theory was that they were making them to be used as protection against law enforcement should the law come sniffing around their meth labs, etc. Of course that doesn’t address the biggest bombmaker to ever come out of Edwards, Mike Ristvedt. But more on him another time.
Here’s the presser direct to us this morning from Edwards County State’s Attorney Mike Valentine, who is the most no-nonsense prosecutor we’ve seen in a long time, and who has a decent law enforcement crew, headed up by Sheriff Darby Boewe, to work the situation. We feel secure in their attention to the matter and believe the whole thing will be resolved in short order:
Edwards County Sheriff Darby Boewe, Albion City Police Chief Mike Judge and Edwards County State’s Attorney, Mike Valentine, have collectively issued the following warning regarding the bomb threats at the Edwards County School:
Threats to the public in Edwards County are taken extremely seriously. Specifically, each bomb threat at a school within the County results in the dispatching of the Secretary of State Bomb Squad from Springfield to Albion, resulting in significant costs to all government entities involved.
Due to the seriousness of the matter, such threats will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
State charges may include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Making a Terrorist Threat 720 ILCS 5/29D-20
- Class X Felony
- Punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison and a $25,000.00 fine
Should anyone have any information about the bomb threats which have occurred at the Edwards County School, they are encouraged to call the Albion City Police Department and/or the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department at 618.445.2721. Individuals may also call CRIME STOPPERS at 618-445-3000.
There will be a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for making the threat(s).
While this may be the workings of just a couple of punks at Edwards County’s schools (and we have them, believe it), they probably don’t realize the seriousness with which this is taken.
So if it is a punk or two, the time to stop is now, before you get your ass arrested and make our front page. Project Success’ kiddie court isn’t going to help you out of this one even if you are a juvie. So consider this a heads-up.
