EDWARDS CO.–The stepfather of Jason Lee Hoy, who died June 2 at age 5 from a drug overdose after his mother gave him a combination of Benadryl and codeine-laced cough syrup, has been sentenced in one of the charges filed against him in October, related to Jason’s death.

Josh Nash has entered a guilty plea in Edwards County court to the charge of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance for selling Jason’s prescribed Adderall pills to AJ Heid, who was living a transient life at the time of Jason’s death and who was in and out of the Nash apartment at housing in Grayville at the time.
In exchange for the plea, Nash, who has no previous criminal record, had the charges of Drug-induced Homicide and several other counts against him dismissed.
His wife Crystal (Jason’s mother) was not so fortunate, as she had taken a guilty plea to just such a charge earlier in the week.
Evidence at the preliminary hearing held in the cases Nov. 6 indicated that Josh Nash had little to nothing to do with the administration of the doses of medication (Benadryl and cough syrup). However, his culpability arose in that he was at least partially responsible for selling Jason’s Adderall, the lack of which created symptoms in the boy that prompted Crystal to dose him the way she did–to ‘calm him down’, as there is a withdrawal aspect of not getting Adderall as prescribed–and that lead to his death.
Nash has been sentenced to seven years in DOC (which might mean 3 and a half; we’ll check the court files to see for sure).

Crystal and Josh have failed at being parents, but so has the man that is Crystal’s father. The man who was supposed to be above spreading rumors about his daughter, and who was supposed to be a source of stability after her mother died. The man who never stopped her from running around, and the man who never held back on the insults and the abuse when she got married and tried to get clean for the first time.
The only option that’s clearly in the self-interest of these children is to send them off for foster care or adoption. Crystal didn’t stand a chance, and neither do her children.

In a worst-case scenario you might have to make two phone calls if you’ve got to contact social services.
These “we tried” claims are bullshit. You either do something about these things or you don’t. There are tons of social services to do these things for you, the same social services that are typically useless 90% of the time EXCEPT for situations like these. And then, of course, you’ve always got the police.

By the way, the prison is now aware of that.

I’ve been complaining about the way that this has been handled from the very beginning. It ruined a trial’s chance to disclose Jason’s fate. The witnesses were running around, spreading rumors, and they lost any credibility that they might have had if they had been put on the stand.
I never said that your dad “hurt” you guys. I’ve never said that he hasn’t been able to hold onto a steady job. I’ve said that he should’ve called the police on Crystal. They would have done something.
I’ve also said that he’s been violent with other people, and that he’s had problems with people that have been dumb problems. In my eyes, that’s enough to warrant getting his grandchildren away from him.
I’ve also heard rumors, but I tend to ignore rumors. There was a period of several months when I actually shot down several rumors that were heading in your direction, but I won’t do that now.
