WAYNE CO., Ill. - A well-known Fairfield man who's been successful in business and politics in previous decades was cited following an accident early this morning on U.S. 45.
Illinois State Police worked the wreck which occurred the morning (Monday, February 6, 2017) at 6:13 a.m.
According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, the driver of a 1999 Lincoln Continental passenger car, Robert S. (Bob) Redfern, 83, of Fairfield, was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 45, south of Wayne County Road 690N, when he crossed the center line into the northbound lane.
The driver of a 1997 Mack truck tractor/semi-trailer combination, Matthew J. Rush, 32, of Fairfield, was northbound on U.S. 45 and when he observed the Lincoln had crossed the center line, he slowed down and moved to the right of his lane, but was unable to avoid a collision.
Redfern's vehicle struck the front driver's side of Rush's vehicle.
Redfern was transported from the crash scene by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
He was later cited for Improper Lane Usage and No Valid Driver's License.
ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Wayne County Ambulance Service and Rick's Towing.
