Stonefort, IL - Last night’s line of storms caused considerable damage in the Village of Stonefort.
Around 8:00PM last night, October 31, a strong line of thunderstorms swept through Southern Illinois and the surrounding states, causing damage in many locations. The most notable damage that has been reported thus far, however, was located in the Village of Stonefort, where a possible tornado was located.
As of this morning, reports included winds of 62 miles per hour in Stonefort, which caused damage to the roofs of four homes. Other damage reports included sheds that had been blown over, as well as other debris from trees and homes.
Other reports indicated a possible tornado in Creal Springs, which has not yet been confirmed. Survey crews will be studying the area to assess if the damage was in fact from a tornado, or just very strong winds.
At about 8:00pm the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado had been spotted 7 miles south of Carrier Mills, and asked people in the area to find shelter immediately. Doppler radar reports also indicated several other signs of rotation in the area, most of which were unconfirmed.
