AMISH BUGGY INVOLVED IN WRECKPosted by Jade Wingard on Friday, July 19th, 2013 @ 12:45 pm.
WAYNE CO.—A traffic accident in the Orchardville area of Wayne County resulted in a citation to the Amish people operating their buggy.
A call to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the accident occurred at approximately 6:37 p.m. yesterday (Thursday, July 18), after a vehicle struck the buggy, causing great damage to it. Those inside the buggy (number unknown) sustained minor injuries and an ambulance was called.
Sheriff’s department officials advised Disclosure staff that the buggy was hit by the vehicle (whose driver, as well as make and model, wasn’t identified) because there was not a safety reflector attached to the buggy.
The horse wasn’t hit and was fine. The person driving the buggy was cited for not having any safety reflectors.
The name was not released, either….despite 50 ILCS 205/3b, a law that holds public bodies responsible for releasing information on “crimes,” regardless of their nature or level (traffic infractions being among them.)
Interestingly, residents have been asking for signage for years from the county board and township to ask motorists to slow down on account of the buggies, to no avail.
