update: Motorcycle/deer collision sends one man to hospital
UPDATE: According to family members Mills has been released from the hospital and is back home tending his wounds.
SALINE CO.– A Hardin County man who traveled a route out of his way to get home in order to avoid hitting a deer suffered the fate anyway.
According to family members, Daniel “Boone” Mills, 24, of Cave-In-Rock was traveling from Paducah, Ky. through Marion to avoid deer that run the area this time of year, at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday night when a deer jumped into the path of his motorcycle on Ill. Rte. 13 near the old railroad overpass, west of Harrisburg, east of Marion.
Sources indicate that Mills laid his motorcycle over and slid several yards. Authorities are said to have had to call a tow truck to remove the motorcycle from the scene.
After being transported to an area hospital, Mills was then flown to an Evansville hospital for treatment of his injuries just after 11 p.m.
Sources at the scene said he was complaining of pain in both legs, hip and abdomen as well as chest pain. Mills also suffered severe road rash.
At last check, Mills was conscious enough to have nurses call his family who are reported to be at his bedside as medical personnel perform diagnostic tests to determine the extent and severity of his injuries.
