CORONER: WHEELER WAS SHOT ONCE IN THE HEAD
WHITE CO.—Just an update out of Wayne County where the body of Jacob Wheeler was located late last night: An examination showed that the young man was shot once in the head. This, said coroner Jimmy Taylor earlier today, was what killed the Army vet and Centerville native, who was 22 years old.
Arrested and charged preliminarily with two counts of First Degree Murder is Danny Coston, 36, of Centerville. He remains jailed in White County on a $3 million bail.
Beyond this report from Taylor, there’s not a lot known of how the two died, such as WHERE the shootings of both of them took place, nor of what the circumstances were. However, this account, coming from the Evansville paper and quoting an employee of the Carmi paper, shows the beginnings of what we’ve been told was a “bizarre” situation as regards how the two young people died:
Witnesses say Coston was at the New Haven American Legion Saturday night, Aug. 25.
“He was very drunk and very obnoxious,” said Braden Willis of Carmi. Willis was a member of the band playing at the Legion Saturday night. “He was getting fresh with women on the dance floor. He was just being way too friendly with the women He was all over them.” Investigators now believe Coston left the New Haven Legion, traveled toward his home in Centerville where he encountered Evans and Wheeler. Precisely where the two were killed remains under investigation. A search for the firearm used in the killings was conducted Saturday morning without finding it.
We’re unclear on whether the gun used to kill the two was the same gun that turned up missing in a search of the Wheeler home earlier in the matter.
When we learn more, we’ll bring it. Keep watching.

Rachel and I think that if it wasn’t for Jane and Harold (JR)Wheeler this case would be dead in the water. They (or us) never lost faith in Jacob and his innocence. Jake’s family diligently searched until they cleared his name. May god bless them in this time of devastation. We feel the surrounding community should step up and help the family give a U.S. veteran and “CLASS ACT” as far as we’re concerned a first class funeral and help his most loving parents with some relief in this time of grief. If anybody feels the Lord tugging on their heart please help them. You can donate to help them by contacting me @ (618)384-6050 or email me @ jacklweasel@hcc.coop. This is my next door neighbor and we hope everybody will help them as you would want to be helped in the same circumstances. If it wasn’t for them a killer would be free and there wouldn’t be any closure. God bless the Wheelers and their loving souls.
That’s a great idea, Jack…we’ll make sure everyone knows. You’re a good friend and neighbor.
