POLICE CHIEF PUTS AN END TO RUMORS ABOUT COP/CHILD SEX INVOLVEMENT

FLORA—Tired of the bullshit revolving around one of his officers, Flora Police Chief John Nicholson finally resorted to making a Facebook posting to allay rumors that Bruce Cook—who is NOT one of the most popular cops in the city, but cop he is, nevertheless—had anything to do with the latest rash of child porn/child molestation/swinger stories. Bear in mind that while it’s taken us a while to sort it out, we began a series of articles last issue (August Special Edition) explaining that there was NO basis to the claim that a cop was involved. But here’s Nicholson’s announcement.

I find myself writing this press release with several mixed emotions. I have been perplexed, angered, disappointed and finally saddened. After several weeks of hearing vicious and completely untrue rumors, spoken as though they were facts, I have decided that a public statement needed to be made to set the record straight. I believed that this type of behavior would eventually be seen for what it was (slanderous) and quickly die out. I was wrong.

There is absolutely NO TRUTH to the rumors that there was or is a Child Pornography ring that was arrested in Flora or Clay County for that matter. There has been NO arrests made in any Child Pornography case other than the Michael Pittman case from June of this year and he has since been remanded to federal custody. He was and is the only one charged in that case. There is again absolutely 0% truth (I would use a lower number if it was possible) to these slanderous, evil rumors.

Good for John! We’re glad to see someone at least attempting to get this thing under control besides us. Our intent was to dole it out a little at a time so that people could very carefully scrutinize it and see for themselves what the mess was…but apparently it got too far out of hand, with people playing “post office” and saying the last thing they heard to the next person in line until it got convoluted. So the chief stepped in.

So, since there’s such a row about it, we’re going to go ahead and give you the timeline, so you can see for yourself WHAT happened and HOW it all went down. Then send this to your friends, so they can read it for themselves, and understand where the tangents came in that twisted this thing all to hell and back.

On May 21, Michael Pittman was busted in Clay on multiple counts of Child Porn.

In early June, flyers about Jay Keele’s involvement in viewing online pornography, and later that month, he was confronted by church elders about it and had his internet taken away.

In early July, according to witnesses, Keele and another prominent Flora man—a specialist physician—were positively ID’d in Champaign while at a Swinger’s convention of sorts. It was associated with the big Swinger’s crowd up there, anyway; whether it was a “convention” or not is a matter of semantics.

On July 10, Pittman’s case went federal.

On July 23, Ellery Thomas was arrested and charged with earlier having had sexual conduct with a very young family member.

Now…here’s the connections.

There is a former doctor—another specialist whom we have NOT named yet—who was, according to increasing reports, involved with both Michael Pittman and Ellery Thomas as a buddy of theirs who shared their sexual bizarrities as regards swinging. This doctor was reported to be a kind of “mentor” in Pittman’s alleged sexual perversions, perhaps trying to steer him clear of the child porn thing, and as the doc was into swinging, he thought maybe this would help Pittman. It did not. This doctor was also swinging back when Ellery Thomas was swinging, decades ago. This doctor doesn’t have ANY reported inclinations toward children, as Pittman and Thomas are alleged to have.

The identity of this doctor apparently is getting confused with the one who was busted with Keele in Champaign. It is NOT the same guy. However, the doctor who was busted with Keele in Champaign has been said to be involved in child porn and other attendant illicit doings. He IS NOT. He’s simply a swinger. Although that’s bad enough.

Enter Bruce Cook.

Not very many people like Cook. Chief among them is Mrs. Michael Pittman, Brenda. Apparently Cook was involved in some aspect of Pittman’s arrest. We’re hearing that Mrs. Pittman had a high-speed comeapart at that time and it’s still continuing. And in that hsca is the allegation that Cook was involved with Pittman. Since Pittman was “mentored” by the former doctor, and since there was a doctor on the hotseat in Champaign (but NOT in legal trouble), Ms. Pittman might have just embroiled the whole bunch in there. Since there were flyers on cars at the First Baptist Church right in the midst of this, that only added fuel to the fire. And so it all boiled down to “a doctor, a local businessman and a cop are involved in child porn”—and NONE OF THAT IS TRUE.

So that’s the story. Because people are going to believe someone as allegedly nutty as Brenda Pittman, this kind of shit is being spoken of openly in places like businesses uptown, restaurants, the hospital…anywhere that people congregate…and they’re taking it as gospel truth.

What would HELP would be what we’ve been saying for years in Lawrence—if authorities would be real honest, right up front, and if the fuggin MEDIA would write about things like Jay Keele getting busted out at the Swinger’s con, this wouldn’t happen. These kinds of things would be stopped before they get started. But now it takes the chief stepping up to the Facebook page for the damned police department and saying something. And people aren’t believing him, because there’s been a lot of coverup at the department on OTHER matters (which we’re ALSO looking into), and are badmouthing the fact that he did that. That’s because they didn’t have the other pieces to the puzzle.

Well, here they are. They’re listed above. Put it together for yourself. Unfortunately, there are other pieces that we can’t put out there right now because they involve intensive investigation, including the names of the two doctors…and what they both have been alleged to have been doing. And while we truly feel about “swinging” like we do—that it’s about a notch up from child molestation on the “ick” scale—it’s STILL NOT CHILD PORN, and IT’S NOT ILLEGAL. So if Bruce Cook and the “local businessman” ARE involved in swinging, so? Let’s save that for another day and another discussion. And if it turns out it’s true, we’ll go there when we get there…but in the meantime, there’s no child porn, no arrests, no anything more salacious than what we’ve already published.
