WHAT THE SWAT TEAM WAS DOING AT RED HILL HIGH SCHOOL THIS MORNING

BRIDGEPORT—Just an update for those who were wondering what all the cops were doing this morning at Red Hill High School in Bridgeport.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we weren’t able to leave the house until about noon. But we went on over there when we were able to shake free and Ang went up to talk to the camo-clad boys perched in and around a big assault van parked in back of the school.

The boys—the ILEAS (Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System) SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) local team, composed of members from all around the area as well as many from Indiana—were doing a routine training exercise at the school today, NOT while kids were in school this morning but when teachers and administrators were present. They are training for any and all kinds of emergencies that could go on in a school setting, natural and man-made. You know, the kind of thing they do over at Wabash A LOT, with Colby “Cheeseboy” Rigg playing the bad guy.

Here they come, big & bad, through da smoke….this one happens to be Kankakee’s SWAT team, but I’m sure they ALL wannabe these guys….

When Ang asked why they didn’t tell anybody in advance, they didn’t have much to say, and when she asked if the teachers or admin were restricted from telling people about it, they said that they weren’t….so why there was so much confusion when parents were dropping off/picking up their kids at football practice is a blue-eyed mystery.

They did this last year, and we happened upon it. They were rather secretive about it then, too. WHY, remains unknown. They’re obviously doing this for the glory, as there are no terrorists in southern Illinois and never will be, and SWAT can’t exactly help in the event of an earthquake that topples the entire building on top of everyone inside. Further, in the event of a Columbine-style shooting, most of it’s going to be over and done with by the time this “team”—which is composed of cops from all over the area, hence the sheer number of cop cars from every jurisdiction imaginable downstate—is assembled and arrived…that’s what we’ve got LOCAL cops and sheriff’s departments for. That’s what our already overstressed TAX DOLLARS pay for.

This is just the ongoing nonsense we see in two things: cops in Lawrence, who refuse to tell anyone ANYTHING about what they’re doing, and the forming of these self-aggrandizing “SWAT teams” that no one in this part of the COUNTRY needs, let alone in this part of Illinois. But we’ve got em…this is what our tax dollars are supporting….and those of us who don’t like it (and WE DON’T) need to advise our legislators of such.
