Isn’t it amazing how much you can get away with when daddy’s a county board member?

FRANKLIN CO.—Is anyone else as disturbed about this as I am?

Deputy Steve Overturf, 32, of Benton, was busted OVER A YEAR AGO (June 17, 2011) while out at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park, by conservation officer John Williamson. The charge was DUI.

Steve Overturf, mugshot

Overturf was taken in and posted bond. It was several days (June 30) before the prosecutor even saw fit to file a charge. And this was largely because the local prosecutor had to bow out “on a conflict”…because not only is Overturf a deputy, but his daddy’s on the county board as well.

As a result of the “conflict,” good old David “Rollover” Rands of the appellate prosecutor’s office was appointed….and so began the slow, inexorable drag through the Franklin County court system. Often going MONTHS at a time without a hearing, there were a few pretrial conferences…then all of a sudden on July 18, at a scheduled PTC…it just ended. Poof. Dismissed on state’s motion. Which is what Rollover Rands does. That’s why we call him Rollover.

The moral of the story is this: If you’re connected in Franklin County, you’ll get off, every time. There are wholesale murderers and child molesters running around Franklin, free as a bird. The corruption there is endemic. And as long as the county is allowed to throw an election like they did in the Primary early this year and bring on Eric Dirnbeck as a judge, or put someone like Tom Dinn in as associate judge, the citizens of Franklin are screwed. There’s a reason why we don’t cover much news in Franklin. There isn’t a whole lot that can be done about such corruption. The voting populace is fluoridated or otherwise influenced. There is no hope. The only thing that can be done with a place as corrupt as Franklin, without boots on the ground to address the wrongs like we have up in equally-corrupt Edgar County in the form of John Kraft and Kirk Allen, is to let it implode. Which it is going to, guaranteed.

So watch out for Steve there. He knows he can get away with it now….and he will continue to do so.

  1. I’m a little late….actually WAY LATE on this. but he didn’t get 100% out of the charges I don’t think. I think what happened he pled guilty to Reckless Driving and got 12 months of Supervision for it.

  2. When I was twenty yrs old I had gotten a DUI in Franklin county, I was fined 3500$ 12 months supervision and my license taken away and somehow revoked. My first time in trouble. I had to pay about 4-500$ for the DUI evaluator, Its costs 500 after you get approved from a hearing officer from the state even get to pay that to have them back impact class. When I got arrested I was already handcuffed in the back of the police car ready to go then another officer apeared and started calling me all kinds of names as if I wasnt already upset, So I told him he mustve been the biggest loser in high school and thats why he wants to pick on hot girls like me being a cop a bully and a huge a-hole. I was already handcuffed seated in the back seat when that cop dove in on top of me choking the life out of me going to mace me an inch from my face. It took 2 other officers to make him unhand me. So I then they took that cops name from ever being there and me being able to prove what he had done…… I am devastated by Franklin county.
