Man under suspicion of murder in Kentucky is in custody in South Counties
HARDIN CO.—After prompting response from federal authorities to close down the highway leading into town, a man who caused a stand-off at the Cave-in-Rock Motel is now in custody in Saline County on behalf of Hardin.
Kentucky police entered a warrant for the arrest of Billy C. Utley in their state on Tuesday after the body of his estranged wife Theresa was found shot in a vehicle in Wheatcroft (in Webster County), Ky. She was reportedly pregnant; however, we haven’t confirmed that fact 100 percent yet.
Utley was considered armed and dangerous and when it was learned that he had checked in at the motel, authorities converged on the area.
Reportedly, another woman was with him at the motel, and she too has been reported taken to the Saline County Detention Center, where they’ve been housed ostensibly awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
The standoff at the motel prompted the closure of Illinois Highway 1 leading into and out of Cave this morning, with plenty of state police and even feds getting in on the action to make sure the public was safe, in case Utley decided to take people with him when he went. Thankfully, everything went peacefully. When we learn more, we’ll update. Tell us your experiences if you were in the area today when it all went down.

Did he come in with the Hog Rock Crowd or was he already there.I know that Chinaman that owns it says he fills up at that time.I think his name is Wong or something like that.
We started hearing Deputies going 10-8 at 3:20 something this morning. Three Deputies that We heard, then the Dispatcher said it has been verified, Number 5. They met up I think at the Old Austin Brothers Store. Didn’t know what was going on, listened closely to scanner. Still only traffic was it being verified Number 5. Knew it had to be the Motel because of where the Deputies responded met. Not until 8:am Did The Sheriff and Chief Deputy go 10-8, didn’t understand that.
I don’t really guess they needed the Sheriff or Chief Deputy with all the State Boys there.
State Boys I don’t think were there yet, when the Three went out. Still, maybe thought They weren’t needed!
Did they wait for the State Boys to get there?
All I know is, Two Part-Time Deputies, and the Cave-In-Rock Officer wet 10-8 at a little after 3a.m. The State Police were there before 8a.m. So, Three Deputies went.
