Yes, John B. Jones enters guilty plea today (05.01.12)
SALINE CO.—A former funeral home director and county coroner candidate in Saline entered a guilty plea today (05.01.12) in Saline County circuit court.
In a case that was started thanks to Disclosure‘s coverage on it in late 2009-early 2010, John B. Jones, 52, was allowed to plead guilty to a single count of theft in the matter, wherein he was charged with multiple counts, dating back to 2007, of thieving money from people who were paying for pre-need funeral arrangements.
These funeral arrangements were like an insurance policy, guaranteeing that a person has purchased a funeral they may not need for 20-30 years or more at a current day rate as opposed to a much more expensive rate later on. Because of this, the money paid for them must be put in a trust fund…not go to the funeral home’s coffers or, like Jones did, into his pocket. Jones did this to countless people….but will only be punished for one incident.
Sentencing in the case has, like many of Jones’ matters, been put off for MONTHS: he won’t have to learn his fate until September 18 of this year. Why the long delay remains unexplained. Whether he’ll be forced to compensate those from whom he stole—or whether that’s even part of the agreement—remains unknown. Like a lot of crap in Saline County, this, too, has been allowed to languish entirely too long…but maybe there’ll be some justice somewhere.
The case was prosecuted by appellate prosecutor Chuck Zalar, who came in on a conflict for elected state’s attorney Mike Henshaw.

A priceless moment!!!!!!
I wonder if BUBBA has the News of him coming to live with him?
which bubba..
LOL! They pass him aropund so each Bubba can have him.Bubba will most likely not take a liken to what he did to the dead and their Families.
Butt knowing him he’ll go in there with a jar of KY Jelly and come out a rich man.
The punishment for white collar crimes, needs to be more severe. No wonder no one is deterred. Steal $500,000.00 and pay it back at $50.00 a month. What a crock….Someone on parole can steal a can of Dinty Moore Beef Stew and go back to prison for five years.

…here’s hopin’ he had the foresight to prepay his own funeral plan…
All the people that were denide justice because the statue of limitations had run out on their ripped off money(yes, there were MORE..)should show up for sentencing. Maybe see some justice….
THAT is a REALLY good idea!
We talked to a few of them….but we can’t begin to know really how many there are until they speak out or show up. We’d love to talk to them. Do an article about how much they lost, etc.
I’ll Facebook it as it gets closer to time, maybe do a static article on it and remind people of it periodically. Thanks, harrisburg, for the suggestion!
DONT FORGET,,, his sentencing is sept. 18th…………
Yeah, we just looked at that file today!
hope ALL his victims showup. thats why we need a reminder…
tomarrow is the sentencing date again….9am
and statue of limitations, what, these people lived too long to file, ?????
Dont understand that at all.Judge needs to know all he’s ripped off to set proper sentance..THE TRUe amount
Jack;
How was the statute of limitations determined in the older cases? Did they base it on the time the premium (money) was actually collected, could a forensic accountant identify when the misappropriation occurred, or when the funds couldn’t be accounted for and the reports made? Hopefully, you are following my logic and I’m not too far off base LOL.
It wouldn’t matter. The statute is the same for all felonies—two years—with limited exceptions, those being child sexual abuse (20 years after the child reaches majority age), murder (none), and trust/insurance fraud (three years instead of two). Had someone opened a serious investigation into John B’s doings when they were first discovered by Mr. Gaskins in, what was it, 2005-06? They could have gone back to 2002 or 03 and recoup’d some of the funds. As it was, they filed it in September 2010, so they can only go back to 2007.
Now here’s a word of advice for those who lost money prior to 2007—get a good attorney and see if you can go after this prick civilly. He’s GOT to have holdings somewhere. Hell, he had a girlfriend up in Sangamon County for years and had a damn kid with her before his wife or anyone around him ever knew about it; he’s likely got funds somewhere and that’s what he’s living off of. Now that there’s a criminal conviction, that case might be able to be used as evidence in a civil matter. But go to a good attorney and ask before you get your hopes up; idk what, if any, statutes of limitations there are in such a thing. But it’s worth looking into.
I seriously doubt he will do any time over this. The argument will most likely be… ‘My client is very remorseful at what his actions have done to hurt and deny the victims the trust and dignity he was to have in their care after their deaths! He wants to make amends to those he claimed guilt for.’ The ‘time’ will be probation and the reperations might be $50-$100/mo to make good on the underhanded crap he has pulled on everyone. I hate to see the ‘wheels’ of justice turn like that, but this is Saline County! The ‘wheels’ turn for each other. I don’t know what J.B.J. has been up to lately, But I believe I saw him flying low into ‘the Burg’ earlier on 13 in a black Corvette. Looked a lot like him, anyway.
judge is not from saline county..
I can’t remember who had that case…was that Clarke, or Leberman?
Check out Judici.com and select Saline County Court. Can be looked up by Case #2010CF323 or as: Jones, John in name search engine. Judici lists Judge Jackson for that case.
See….I don’t even know who that judge is. I don’t know that I’ve ever watched him. We’re not in Massac County….yet.
special prosecutor charles zalar and circuit judge joe jackson of massac county
Ridiculous he’s not being sentenced till Sept. Guess he’s got a lot more golf to play this summer. Oh and let’s not forget the huge amount of child support he still owes. Guess that will never be collected either.
Anything less then time,is not justice…
This is just what I think..that he should serve time but biggest pay back should be that he be required to be in a striped assed suit..out doing jobs until he PAYS it all back..thru manual labor..sweat..heat..there are plenty of things to do in our county..this goes for all of them..so tired of even hearing about “oh..they were on drugs” as the excuse for thefts and vandalism..a thief is a thief..and just look how many we have tried..got bailed out and are back in society..and just fades into never never land..with all these outfits that are in trouble we should not have one piece of trash to be picked up in our communities..dress em up and require them to do work..chain gang!
I just hope the special prosecutor charles zalar, Makes it very clear that the 4 cases and whatever else he can get in there to the judge, were all done with the intent of stealing, not miss management of the money.. This judge wanting to hear the details, tells me he can see the big picture of who he is..
Just a thought, should the money J.B. put in his pocket count as income & reported to IRS
as same ????????
do u realy think he counts that??? The college courses he’s now taking, how they being payed??? Just a thought
We, the TAXPAYERS, are of course! You can be certain the Low Life is taking ADVANTAGE of all the financial aid and grant $$$ he can get his greedy hands on as well as anyone elses money! What a FREELOADER!
Anyone know what class he’s taking so we can have our eye’s open to what line of work is in his future..
