Kirkpatrick trial underway; hard to believe Drew’s going through with it
WAYNE CO.—So far, it’s been a somewhat disturbing day of testimony in the sex assault trial of former Fairfield Community High School teacher Haven Kirkpatrick.

Kirkpatrick, 30, opted for a bench trial in front of Edwards County resident Judge David Frankland, originally set for yesterday but for whatever reason, didn’t go until today, Oct. 13. She is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student at the end of the school year in 2010, and is charged with eight separate counts of sexual activity with the girl (who, at her age, was by Illinois law considered too young to consent, given Kirkpatrick was in a position of authority or trust over the girl).
Kirkpatrick’s attorney Bryan Drew was apparently ready to go this morning for her defense, and thus far today, the victim has given two hours of testimony, most of it in tears, some of it so distraught that our reporter in the courtroom noted others being moved to tears.
In a somewhat unexpected and bizarre move, the victim has reportedly admitted during testimony about having a ‘crush’ on a male teacher, a Mr. Kirksey, not Haven K. But most of this was delivered through tears, and Drew should know it would mean nothing anyway even if she were to speak of Kirkpatrick in such terms, as the girl was under 18 when any alleged sexual activity went on. This Illinois law seems lost on Drew, however, as it was that approach he took with the initial defense for Todd Fort in Saline, and we see where THAT got him.
Elaborating on that theme, our correspondent has advised us that there has been testimony about alleged sexual contact between the victim and Kirkpatrick, and that under questioning from the state (represented by Mike Valentine, Edwards County prosecutor brought into the case on a conflict from Wayne’s prosecutor), the victim stated it was “skin to skin” for “sexual pleasure” of Kirkpatrick. However, on cross examination by Drew, the victim was questioned about having changed her story at least twice from the original report. The victim has said she changed it “to protect Haven.” Drew says it’s because she’s been making it up all along. Way to go, BryBry. Disparage the victim. That child’s been through enough already, dontcha think?

Do you think part of his strategy for his clients is to always keep the mis-trail in play based on incompetent counsel?

I think Bryan Drew thinks he is winning. All he might get is his clients charges reduced from 8 counts to 2 counts, more testimony in the morning. This is a trully sad and emotional story!
wonder what the heck shes gonna end up with? probably nothing near what fort was faced with our luck she’ll lose her teaching certification, get probation and be on the Ellen show by the first of the year
You may be surprised by the end of this trial. Bryan Drew kinda gave a determination of things goin his way, but what I see is a pot smokin, drunk that molested her students and was having several lesbian affairs, some with married women! This is based on my opinion of things and we have established for sure that two occasions there have been sexual type behaviors so lets just hold on to our britches and lets see what today holds!
Jack, did your ears at the trial say if they State validated wether or not Bullwinkle provided or shared her pot with the victim?
As a side observation Bullwinkle could use some grooming lessons from the Chaz Bone’s book of “My Daddy wanted a Son and Mom made me where a dress when I was 4.
Actually, yes….the victim herself admitted that she had a problem with pot use. So yeah, I believe HavenK and the girl were toking at the same time, if I’m remembering correctly.
Jack they smoked pot together. Thats just a fact…I sure hope the victim gets some help with this as it is not good for her or her reputation. Outside of that after Dec 14 it will be a long time before Haven will be able to have a joint/blunt so she better get after it now and suck alot down as she is gonna be away for quite a while. Oh ya and Haven…the meals suck there but maybe there will be someone there for your sexual gratification. I doubt you will be asked to teach any classes there and once you return to society it will probably be hard for you to find employment but you will make it. I just hope you are ready to receive some of what you dished out and perhaps some butch will actually pin you up against the wall as you suggested and force you into some situation that you cant thwart off! Have fun Haven cuz the haven you are goin to won’t allow for much rest!
Isn’t sending a lesbian to the IDOC about the same as asking a drunk to lock up the bar or liquor store?
I am not versed in the law, but because she selected a bench trial, does she have the ability to appeal?
That I’m not sure of. It seems to me I’ve sat through a couple of bench trials wherein the defendant later appealed…so maybe.
I am not well versed in this matter but if I am guessing she will not appeal as most any jury would convict her based on the evidence presented to the judge. No Bryan Drew couldn’t even make a truth out of his defendants lies!
…I think I would have held out for a jury trial and tried to get a sympathetic carpet muncher or two installed on the jury…by the way TL, I tend to agree that it don’t sound like punishment to me either…sorta like lockin’ up a pedophile in a juvenile facility….oh well, cover her in honey and toss her to the Bulls…

Something makes me think that Drew and Haven have kicked the cat!
