CRAWFORD CO.—The weather held off on Saturday, September 24, in order for the Crawford County Tea Party group to bring an encouraging, inspirational and common-sense-based program to about 250 local patriots who listened eagerly, happy to hear that there are others like them who think and believe the way they do: That limited government, and government by and for the people, is the way to go in this country, and will solve all manner of ills.

The day was as festive as they come, with delicious food being served by Bud’s BBQ, and patriotic music playing at the pavilion in Robinson’s city park.

The program began shortly after noon, with local singing sensation Hunter Allen from rural Crawford County doing the honors with his version of the Star Spangled Banner.

Tea Party organizer Tyler Bush kicked things off, explaining that the original Tea Party was held in 1776 by a bunch of people who got mad and didn’t want things to keep going the way they were; then in 2009, somebody else got mad and started it all over again. He spoke on how since that time we have been reviled and vilified, including being called everything we’re not, but which mainstream media and other enemies of truth, common sense and the Constitution wish people would believe about us: that we’re “racist,” “bigots,” and most recently, “S.O.B.s”. He also noted that Obama called us a “threat to democracy.” And he noted that locally, Tea Party signs had been stolen, with one being returned to the lawn it was taken from after having had “LIE” spray painted across the face of it (we must really be doing something right to be perceived as such a threat, since mild-mannered, kindly Tyler, who exemplifies the Tea Party, is the type of person these idiots are going after):

After Tyler, his sister-in-law, the lovely Anita Bush, gave a wonderful presentation on acknowledging the real patriots and heroes of September 11, 2001.

After Anita’s presentation, Blaine Wilhour of the Fayette County Board and owner of Longhorn Buildings gave an awesome presentation on how our politicians have “buried us under a mountain of bad decisions” including writing checks they can’t cash and placing our values and principles under direct assault. Wilhour, a six-year Army National Guard member, advised that we need to recruit good, thoughtful, real world candidates to run for office, because true reform is through the people, not the politicians.

Wilhour’s presentation was followed by that of Dominique Durbin, co-founder of Durbin GeoThermal, in Beecher City. Durbin (not related to THAT Durbin) spoke of how labor unions are ruining this country, giving examples of how his company is top in its field, but because he wouldn’t use union workers, he was ineligible for government contracts (his presentation at times was absolutely jaw-dropping, considering that union companies would call the Illinois Labor Department if they even saw his trucks in the vicinity of a job and make a complaint, even though his company was doing nothing at all to warrant such a complaint….it was their mere presence that prompted the calls!)

Throughout the presentations, the man who should have been governor, Adam Andrzejewski, waited patiently with the crowd, enjoying the speakers just like everyone else.

That's why we're crazy about this guy. He is the most unassuming politically-active person we've ever met. He's just downright IMPRESSIVE.

And then Andrzejewski took to the podium and gave a fascinating presentation on what the problems are in Illinois as regards corruption, and how he has addressed it during his “Open the Books” campaign he took up following his run for governor in the 2010 Primary.

Through the “Open the Books” portal, you can learn what the state is paying EVERYONE who gets paid a state of Illinois DIME, from the mightiest to the least, including schoolteachers, township road officials, all our elected officials, etc. This was accomplished through Andrzejewski fronting thousands of Freedom of Information Act requests to the various entities throughout the state and is even more comprehensive than what the Bloomington-Normal Pantagraph did a few years back, which we featured per county in our “Who’s at the Trough” series last year. The big difference is, Andrzejewski got RETIREMENT salaries, too….something the state wasn’t too keen on unassing, as the retirement salaries are ridiculous in this state.

Add to the amazing content of the presentation the fact that Andrzejewski is a dynamic speaker—one of the best we’ve ever beheld—and it makes for a spectacular thing to get to hear. He told about how even our townships, which are currently up for debate statewide on whether to even keep as units of government or not, are so corrupt that the smaller units like those and like counties are robbing the people blind and causing our property taxes to skyrocket and make the cost of doing business in Illinois nearly impossible….something WE at Disclosure have been saying (and showing, as in the case of June Bailey in Wayne County) for YEARS.

 

Andrzejewski completed the day's presentations, and Hunter Allen once again took the floor, this time to belt out "God Bless America," which was stunning, and which the audience joined him in.

And while it might sound trite, it’s really true: a good time was had by all. We got to stick around and close the place down, and Andrzejewski continued speaking to enthusiastic Tea Party ralliers.

We also got to hang out with our Edgar County correspondents, and speak to several people who are running for office in the more northerly reaches of our circulation area, including Kevin Garner….and several whom we HOPE run for office!

We’d like to thank those who turned out for this awesome Tea Party rally, and to those who weren’t able to make it, there will be another soon, no doubt. Also, our sympathies to Bruce Cummins, one of the organizers of Crawford’s events….his wife Michelle passed away this past week.
