FAIRFIELD FALL FUN FEST, THURSDAY/FRIDAY

....and local politicians man their stations, encouraging voters.

Here's what you see when you arrive in town on Highway 15 from the east. Always a welcome sight when I was a kid or home on vacation....

Here's a big draw at the FFF...the lodge's grilled stuff is to die for.

Of course everyone at the fest must make a stop at the many tents....I remember in 1973 they had a "moon rock" on display. Little did we know...

Local businesses have their stuff on display...

At times, you really do have to push your way through the crowds.

They always have someone interesting in the dunking booth. This time it was Charlie McMeen, Fairfield city cop. At the far right is sheriff Mike Everett (former city cop), preparing to dunk McMeen.

The sheriff scored, dunking McMeen; he declared that a dollar well-spent.

There was entertainment in the north tent, this time the Zumba girls doing a demonstration of their workout.

And they had a small following doing their own Zumba on the floor in front of the stage.

Stan Garner, who helps organize entertainment for the event and operates lights and sound, is shown at left.

Back out into the crowd....let's go look at the rides....

They always have good midway rides at the Fun Fest.

There are rides for little kids and rides for big kids (as shown), and all are equally popular.

Some jokers were throwing beads down onto the ride crowds. Actually, I think that might be my cousin....his gym is located right next door here.

And then there is the entertainment. This was Thursday's offering; all entertainment is held in "Bathroom Park" (mayor Mickey Borah's idea to pub big brick restrooms next to the parking lot at the bank. Don't ask me; I didn't nickname em that).

The is Band 222. Don't know what they're named after; maybe that TV show in the 70s. Next coupla pics are they.

222 was the Friday night entertainment offering. They had people on their feet, dancin.

The Beasley Band finished Friday night's line-up....they were fairly rockin, as a good Friday night band should be.

And that concludes our first two nights of the Fall Fun Fest....we have more from today, everything from the opening events this morning up through ARF's Outrageous Dog Contest Saturday....keep checking back!

WAYNE CO.—Here are the sights of the social event of the year in Fairfield, the Fall Fun Fest, from the first couple of nights (Thursday and Friday, September 15 and 16).

Here's what you see when you arrive in town on Highway 15 from the east. Always a welcome sight when I was a kid or home on vacation....

Here's a big draw at the FFF...the lodge's grilled stuff is to die for.

  1. They had a swing era jazz band?!?! Man, I always miss the good stuff! Were they any good? They play any Glenn Miller, Gene Kruppa, the Count? Or maybe modern nu-swing like the Cherry Poppin Daddies, Big Voodoo Daddy, The Squirrel Nut Zippers? At least their fair had great turn out. Ours has been waining in recent years.

CHRIS…..I am having trouble getting the homepage to load on my Motorola milestone(Android)phone. It will go to about 95% and won’t go any further. The only part that doesn’t load is the comment section. Comments load OK if I am on a single article, just not on the homepage. Is this on my end or yours?

I have the mobile theme turned off so it looks the same as my computer. The part that won’t load is the latest comments section.

Cell Phones a.k.a. Smart Phones are slow to load this site at its full capacity no matter what. This goes for many other sites with lots of data. Maybe some things can be adjusted but it is always slow unless I switch to mobile mode.

    • That’s why there is a mobile version of the site. ;)

ya and then no pictures and you cant go to the side and see if someone has recently replied to you. Furthermore you can’t always remember what posting you posted in so the recent comments section is a handy tool to have. Pics with or without no big thing but lets say I was wanting to comment on the Juggalo column, for whatever the reason, because it is months later it is more difficult to look up and with a mind that only halfway functions at times you have a problem. However if you use the full version you have all the apps you need but its just slower. No big deal its only a few minutes and I can be doing something else while waiting. I was actually just explaining the same thing you said but figured, I would be onery and let the cat out of the car! While the cat is runnin and goin as fast as he can, is there anyway a person can set this site up to email the commenter when they have a reply. If that is possible it would make it a lot easier to more promptly reply to a comment? Doing this would also direct you to the correct column on this site. This is something the previous server did that I actually liked. So just wondering. Please dont take this harshly it is constructive criticism and also a question. :D

Nice pics of the fun fest boy you guys sure do get to a lot of places with no one seeing you. :)

  6. Old Fart

Jack was you that guy I saw up there in a clown suit?

  7. Old Fart

Ya you sure do shoot some fine pictures… how many do you reckon you got in all Jack?

    • @_@

idk….I would say over 300 per fest with the exception of Newton’s, we only shot a few dozen of those….there are so many we’re having a hard time deciding on what to put online.

      • Old Fart

I would hate to have the job of posting them online. Gettin 300-500 pics of things and believe you me I have it sure makes it hard to get em all online.

Do ya have anymore suggestions on how to make the wifey a lil more happy since she is still mad about that joke of the broom that I shared the other day…At least, I didn’t say, Was you near Cisne when that occured or something smart…and yes that is where the earth shook the hardest lol! Anyhow I am tryin not to get beat to death by the remnants of that broom handle. I have even offered to buy her a new car while we were up there the Lions club had straw brooms for sale. Did ya see those yesterday?

        • Ya, I actually had a request for a straw broom….we’ve seen those in other fests, they had em in Carmi two years ago….we always end up spending our money somewhere else, like the lodge’s tenderloins….wowowowow.

          • Old Fart

The lodges tenderloins were really gooooooood!

          • Old Fart

I believe the Lions club or the rotary club one sells brooms…might be a little pricey but I guess they are worth it…if it keeps they wifey happy. They are good on gas tho…so I hear tell anyways! ZOOM ZOOM!

  8. Old Fart

Muh wifey stilz iz mhad atz meh fer the broom joke…Jack the flowerz and chocolatz didnt work!

  9. Old Fart

Well folks if you live in Southern Illinois, chances are you won’t have any dust if you mow today! The drought is over as the weather service finally got the prediction for rain correct. Stay dry today everyone well unless you iz one of em peeps that don’t shower regularly…thenz you needz to be outside with a bar of soap. 8)
