Massive response on fight at Poor Boys Friday

HARRISBURG—The response to our report on the Friday incident at Harrisburg’s questionable biker bar, Poor Boys, has been overwhelming, and we have opted to bring to you what others are saying to us.
The following is a compilation of several emails we received over the weekend, after Brandon Bebout was allegedly beaten brutally by Chris Wiley, whom we have confirmed is a nephew (via marriage, not blood) of one of Poor Boys’ owners, “Crazy” Jim Watson. We have boiled the input down to be presented to you, but NONE of these are our own words; this is real information that has come in to us since we put up the post Saturday, 07.30.11.
One reader advised us, through our coverage of the incident, “Kick ‘em (Poor Boys, Crazy Jim and ChickenBob Wilson, who is part owner of the place [at least on paper]) while they’re they’re down… After all, that’s what they and their patrons do to people. I think you should let the older citizens of the community (after all, we are part of the Bible Belt) really see what’s going on, and perhaps the pressure cooker that Crazy J & Chicken B are in will get so hot that someone with the right info and enough nerve will blow the lid.”
Another suggestion: “People need to know that PB’s is quickly becoming just like the old Players Club and even worse… Check this out: Hypodermic needles constantly being found on the parking lot, always having bad fights & never enough security (as required by law), sex toy parties every few months, Chippendale’s male strippers scheduled for Aug. 23rd, bartenders as well as customers always flashing their tits, pool hustlers taking advantage of the weak, illegal poker machines (although the sign reads ‘For entertainment purposes only’), catering to outlaw biker clubs when holding their quarterly and annual meetings, offering more money & a contract to local entertainers in order to keep them from the competitors, placing some people on the barred list for absolutely no reason at all (hummm?), no cover charge for certain VIP’s, free drinks to certain VIP’s, nobody is ever too drunk to be cut off, and there is a chosen few that can do whatever they want and will never get barred, and on and on and on…”
We don’t know what Players Club is; that’s before our time in Saline Co, but we’re sure you, our good readers, will fill us in! As for the rest of it: we don’t have to say “alleged” on this stuff; our readers have assured us that they have been there and have SEEN it with their own eyes.
More input: “Crazy Jim thinks he’s untouchable because he has Chicken Bob shrouding him with his evil vulture wings, and he has more money than most of us could ever make in a dozen lifetimes, (thanks again to Chicken Bob)… Crazy Jim sucks up to his inner circle which consists of: a few politicians, a few dirty cops, a few money makers like some coal miners, E.T Simmons & Ameren employees, some disabled old guys who spend their entire monthly government check there, a couple of independent contractors, a local pharmacist, a CPA, an insurance agent, and lots of young big-tittied girls who are always willing to show em off… Everyone else is just bar trash.”
WOW. We had no idea.
Then, this from the first emailer (we put it in separate locations in order to flow contextually): “Actually, Players Club was like going to church compared to Poor Boys… Jim Watson spends his a lot of his time at casinos, Daytona, bike rallys, and places away from here where people only know him as a big spender rather than who and what he really is. Years ago the people of this community would have never allowed things to go on like the current activity at Poor Boy’s.”
Here’s one that caused us to sit up and pay attention:
“I want to know what should our new mayor, Eric Gregg do about this? Look at people like John Stanley who has never ran a business like Crazy Jim Watson, but has constantly been shot down by those who are suppose to be pillars in the community. (Yeah right). Business owners here have been shut down for almost nothing at all. Why hasn’t Poor Boys Lounge? (I think we all know why). Eventually someone is going to get killed there, then what ? Poor Boys is a very uncomfortable place to be unless you’re an alcoholic, a drug dealer, a stripper, a fighter, a corrupt politician, a dirty cop, an outlaw biker, a gambler, a pervert, a pool shark, or a sex freak. I think our new mayor should man up and serve the town according to his oath of office and stop allowing the longtime problem of favoritism to continue. Most can’t see the forest for the trees when there’s so much more to see if one will just stop and look closely.”
So, we contacted Mayor Gregg, and were pleased to see that he issued this statement:
“Incidents like the one that occurred this weekend in Harrisburg will not be tolerated. We will review city ordinances to address areas that are, or may become problems. Establishments within this city need to ensure the safety of their patrons at all times while they are on their property. It is my plan to step up dealing with anyone or group that is breaking the law–to the fullest extent of the law.”
So now, it’s starting to look like a showdown: who’s in charge, Crazy Jim and ChickenBob, or the duly-elected officials of Harrisburg, who ran on a platform of encouraging business in their town, but are concerned with the safety of each and every resident?
The answer to that should be clear, but let’s remember: ChickenBob was the attorney in charge of things in Harrisburg when the city was doing little things like not bonding their police department or chief (Bob Smith, who’s STILL embroiled in an ongoing federal case brought by Stanley). As a supporter of Watson, there’s no telling WHAT kind of crap Wilson could pull out his rear. So our best wishes are with Mayor Gregg and the council; they’re going to have a hard road ahead of them having to deal with characters like these.

Ok, I’ll throw my two cents worth in and see how much hell I catch. First off, let me point out that I don’t know either of the men involved but I do know several of his (Brandon) family members and have no problem with any of them. Second… I don’t think that either Poor Boys or the bystanders should have any LEGAL obligation to protect anyone. They should have a MORAL obligation,but not legal. If you are going to hang out around biker bars you can expect fights to be part of that atmosphere. That doesn’t mean that I approve of MR. Wiley’s behavior,just that he alone should suffer the consequences of his actions.
Does anyone know what started the fight in the first place? I can think of several good reasons for someone to get his ass kicked and deserve it. I AM NOT SAYING THAT HE DESERVED IT BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED, JUST SAYING THAT THE OTHER GUY COULD HAVE HAD A GOOD REASON.
It is up to an establishment to make sure that the people that come there to spend their money and have a good time are safe! The bartender should make sure ppl don’t drink and drive heavily under the influence and for darn sure ppl don’t get beat so damn bad that this happens. IF he would have died then what those ppl would have been charged with something. Thank god he did not, but that doesn’t mean they should just go about their lives. I get it is a biker bar and fights happen but the point is this was not some little tiff. It wasn’t let’s box it out and then have a beer. I know people that deserve to get their butts kicked as well but this was more than that and no one deserves to be thrown outside like a piece of trash and beat to that point! From what I have heard this is not the first time this OTHER GUY has used his power and size to beat the hell out of ppl. I have pleanty of stress in my life but I don’t go around beating people!

Absolutely God was watching over him and sheltered him in His arms! And, the Bebout girls and I used to mouth each other all the time, but we were teenagers and remained friends! The Bebout girls mouthed each other and had to LIVE together&were fine…lol…
I think all the Bebouts are just fine! I was a cheerleader with a few of them.
I don’t care who it is, NOBODY deserves to be “sucker punched”, knocked unconscious, then beaten unmercifully when he’s unconscious to the point Bebout was beaten. And as a bar owner, someone needed to be left with the authority to do something if this occurred and be watching to ensure it didn’t happen. Jeez, it’s getting worse over there than in Old Shawneetown in its heyday. But I hear Chicken Bob is moving out of Saline County in the near future. So no telling what will happen if that actually takes place.
I agree Hannah and not just because Brandon is my family! No matter how mouthy us bebouts can get no one deserves that lol! You don’t go around do that to people it’s just not right!
Anyone who does that to somebody has serious emotional and mental issues. I know someone who woke up in the middle of the night in their own house and an intruder was trying to rob them. He held him down while his wife called the police. Now he had a good reason to beat this guy to death, BUT he didn’t. Why? Because he had some damn sense.
I agree with you 100% I know Mr Wiley very well,and something had to happen for this to have gotten this out of control,on the contrary of what some will say about him he is a good man!!!!!!!!!!! I pray for Mr Bebout,and his family,but in return I am also praying for Chris I know he had to feel threatened in some form to act in this manor,,,,it’s Self Defense….is it wrong to protect yourself?????

A good man doesn’t do this to my family! I don’t see how a BIG TOUGH so he thinks guy could feel threatened by my 120lb ALL ALONE cousin. If he was which I’m sure he was not, he could have got up and left or called the police. Wiley is a frequent I hear and he had pleanty of his friends there threatened I think not. Protecting yourself would b if someone comes at you first. Not beating someone over and over and over till you feel like being done and then throwing them out like trash. I know people that run their mouth a lot but I have never even thought of doing what this dude did. As for the paper saying he was underpressure shit WHO ISN’T these days what a cop out. There wasn’t a second he had any mercy and will deserve everything that comes his way!!!

Dennis, Maybe Jim’s place will be thinking or hearing the theme song from Cops here soon, ‘Bad boy, Bad boys..Whatcha gonna do, Whatcha gonna do when they come for you’? I thought Player’s was bad when we quit going there years before they finally closed. It sure does sound like PB’s is worse, but then again, it’s about 12-15 years later.
Well from what I read here has made my decision to take my Full SSI Check and my Food Stamps and go to the Poor Boys Bar!!!!!!!!
Good idea, Top cat. Better than paying an expensive ticket price to see a movie. Nothing better than a little live action. And as for those poker machines, I don’t know why Jim keeps those “For entertainment only” signs up there. Those machines are now legal in Illinois IF he’s hooked up with the State so they can take their share off the top. Maybe nobody told Jim about that though. If not, then he could really be in for some problems later on. Maybe he should have kept on selling furniture.
Actually Hannah, I don’t think that law is in effect YET. Yes, it passed. One of my customers was Williams before they sold out and I was running copies of the law/contracts for the businesses using new machines. I was suppose to go into effect beginning of 2011. That got moved back, then it got moved back I believe twice more, according to friends at the Secretary of State’s office. So it’s coming but not in affect just yet.
The new law requires that both the vender and the business register and sign the contracts for the licensees. The “split” is 3 ways: state, business & vender. But the vender has to pay for and supply the new approved machines which are connected 24/7 to the net and credit card only. Business owners cannot reset machines I believe. The machines cost are as much as a car (no doubt a manufacturer “helped” write this bill!) and each business can only have I believe 5 machines at any location tops! Plus open to random state inspector checks. So the biggest complaint I hear is only 5 machines per location/business. As most of you know, most places have MANY more machines. Plus I doubt customers playing are gonna like having to report and pay taxes on their winnings (all automatically of course before pay out). I totally support that legalizing it will definitely help bring revenue to this bankrupt state, but if state politicians are just gonna blow the budget no matter what (ie, the nation debt crises) that’s not gonna help trim the pork. Anyway, someone is dragging their feet to actually implement the state law that is already passed. I don’t know why, but there’s probably money involved.
Thanks, Chris, for filling me in on that piece of information. I don’t play the poker machines and I don’t gamble…period. But your post is quite interesting, very informative and VERY CORRECT. Until the PORK is cut and the POLS we tend to elect get some kind of clue that this State is going down the tubes, they will keep grasping at anything and everything they can to increase the tax base. Gambling is addictive, that’s been proven. Gambling bankrupts many families. Anyway, looks like Crazy Jim better leave his signs up that his machines are for “entertainment only”, when we all know better…don’t we?
I wouldn’t really call Poor Boys a biker bar, a more accurate desription would be “pretend biker” bar. What happened to Mr. Bebout is criminal, sucker punching a guy once is bad enough, beating him senseless as he is knocked out is cowardly.
Harrisburg has a problem with wanna-be tough guys and always has. I think what really surprised me here was the fact there wasn’t several who jumped in to help pummel Mr. Bebout which is usually the case.
I wouldn’t expect alot of punishment from Saline county for the perp either, most criminal cases and criminals in Saline county will have thier cases extended and moved forward over and over and then at the most get probation and a fine.
I remember a few years ago two suspects beat a man almost to death and one spent a few months locked up and the other got nothing out of it at all.
Saline county has a serious problem of not enforcing the laws and letting some just break it left and right.

That is so true. Brandon will need to hire an attorney who isn’t from Saline Co. though or even surrounding counties to stand a chance at justice. I’m sure this will continue to be a life altering experience for him and his family for quite some time in more ways than one. It’s one thing to get into a fight, give it your best shot then have to swallow your pride because you got your ass kicked. But, when you stand no chance whatsoever because you were knocked out from a sucker punch to the back of the head….that isn’t a fight. So, now he has to have facial reconstruction, which may take a few surgeries, very high medical bills, out of work for no telling how long and has a family to support. So, yeah, I hope he gets a good attorney too. If this Wiley guy had done this at PB’s(or anywhere) before and they knew him to be short fused or just not wired right in the first place, they should have at the very least, been keeping an eye on him. Or he shouldn’t have been allowed back in there after the first time.
It’s things and places like this “biker bar”, that causes the stereotyping for all bikers.
I know a few Bebouts but not Brandon. It’s apparent you don’t know Mr Wiley,he may be a lot of things,but a coward isn’t one of them!! He is a good person I don’t know what took place because I don’t associate myself to bars,but I do know this he had to have a darn good reason for doing what he done. My prayers are with Brandon,and his family,but also with Mr Wiley just goes to show bad things happen to good people who are in the wrong place at the wrong time!I’m sorry this is just how I see it!

Yes I absolutely know for a fact that good people snap! I have the most amazing brother that anyone good ask for, him and his wife were in a Bar 16 years ago and a man kept on and on with my brothers wife even after he asked him repeatedly to leave her alone,but the man refuse to listen,and pulled a knife on my bro,so my brother shot him outside the bar and went to prison for 14 years,my brother had never been in trouble in his life he was just protected his wife and his self,and had every right in doing so,so yes good people do snap!!

I just don’t believe that from what I have heard Wiley would be scared or threatened by my cousin. Threatened to me is more than calling someone a fag or whatever. What happened to your brother is a little different Brandon was not nagging at wiley or his wife all night and did not pull a knife on him. If the report is right Brandon was intoxicated and at an ever more disadvantage!

I agree with you Irish. I know a female who was almost beaten to death by a male and the authorities asked her if she would agree to simple battery. She had to see a facial reconstuctionist and has permanent damage.
Sundance, not sure about the bonding out, but as of when he turned himself in, he was preliminarily charged with Aggravated Battery with possibly more to be added. Jack & Ang will update us as soon as they get it. Nice to see you back!

Top Cat, there are training classes available for you to attend that will teach you how to get a SSI “Crazy Check” but you should have gotten them when you were a youngster so you could have been getting them all of these years.
I know that sound ridiculous but I do know of a woman that lived in the Section 8 Housing Authority public housing projects in Galveston that did actually do just that. Mothers would bring their children to this woman who would teach them how to perform to appear crazy enough to qualify for a check from SSI. The mother would get the check for caring for a mentally disturbed child even though she had never paid taxes on anything in her life. (I mean income or property tax, she would of course pay sales tax on her Zig-Zag rolling papers, her MD 20-20 wine, etc)
Now we wonder why we are $14 Trillion in debt….

There is probably some menopause awareness group you could join or perhaps your hubby since it will be just as difficult for him when he’s at home. Next is alzheimers…its called the golden years but I haven’t ever been shown what is so golden about it.

I’m with you on that one, Dennis. I know a woman that actually took her perfectly normal child to a doctor, said the kid has a “behavior disorder” and got the kid a prescription for Retalin (which by the way, the kid is perfectly normal and refused to take), then applied for/received SSI for the kid. I don’t think the boy even resides with her any more, but she’s still getting the SSI check. Go figure. This is what’s wrong with our country. Got a drinking problem or drug problem or have anger fits? Go apply and they’ll give you a medical card, food stamps and money in a NY minute. Don’t get me started, it wouldn’t be very pleasant.

It makes me sick to think that not one person in that bar had the morals to attempt to help Brandon I hope everyone of them are held responsible. I hope that Chris Wiley is charged with attempted

An article in the Daily Register said the bartender said Bebout was vomiting blood and asked someone to take him outside. WTF? So what happened? Wiley almost beat him to death and then drug him outside and left him for dead on the ground. Sounds like the bartender lied to the police.

He was laying on his back when found by officer Tommy L., bleeding from mouth,ears,nose& was having a hard time breathing..I wonder why? It’s a true miracle he was found and didn’t asphyxiate while he was there..Bartender asked for him to be taken outside after she seen him throwing up blood…My Gosh!

He is a good man,everyone makes mistakes,even I have got so upset that I have done some things that I later regretted,but the damage was done,and I suffered the consequences just as Wiley will!! Everyone does have the right to their opinion, without a doubt. And, everyone makes mistakes. But if what is being said about this not being Wiley’s first time with this kind of thing, it’s not a mistake, it’s his way of life. If you make a mistake and learn from it, then it was a mistake worth making…If you don’t, then it’s a habit and ya didn’t learn a damn thing.

I think getreal finally gave up because he/she isn’t going to convince anyone on here that Wiley is a good person, let alone a man! I’m sure whatever Wiley was drinking that night must have made some hair grow on his chest. Probably had a surge of testosterone, started beating his chest(feeling like a “real man”, sarcasm here)scoped out the easiest target, who was already at a disadvantage(intoxicated&throwing up blood)and brutally beat him! Wiley, being the “real man” he is took off..why? Because his ass was SCARED! PERIOD! Even if Brandon mouthed him, you fight words with words. If someone touches you, you have the right to defend yourself, but this went beyond that. Brandon couldn’t defend himself, he was knocked out after the first blow! I wonder where Wiley ran to when he left? Did he go clean up and change clothes before he turned himself in? I hope they get the answers to these and many more questions!

Wiley is a coward thats what he is! A good man my ass. He wasn’t the one laying in a hospital bed unresponsive, while friends and family and his babies prayed to God that he would be ok Bebout was! And why because he MITE MITE have said something to hurt Wiley’s feeling WOW! It’s sick that what it is!

Exactly! That is what I have been thinking all the way along. But, the bartender has already said that she asked someone to take him outside because he was throwing up blood. So, she is going to have to come up with a viable reason for not calling for help for him, in any case. Know what I mean?

And sweet4sweets yes she will but the fact is is does not matter what she comes up with, she never had her story straight from the get go! There is nothing you can come up with for something like this she should have called the police before he was laying on the floor in the first place. They should not have let it get that far!

Lighting Mcqeen, It is in my thoughts,hopes and prayers that they HAVE to answer for their lies here on earth, before answering to God! I don’t know when the picture of Brandon was taken and sent in…it doesn’t really matter, he had blood on his face still and freaking tubes coming out of him. One looked like a respirator tube and the other an oxygen tube…I guess I should check out the pic again before sending this, but still… :o:

Thank you LM!! I never did check the pic out again. That’s what I was remembering from looking at it last night. I was kinda wondering if he hadn’t had an NG tube as well? If they determine he didn’t have any blood in his stomach or that’s where the blood came from that he was “throwing up”, THAT’S A MAJOR FACTOR in this! That means it came from the blows to the head and it wasn’t coming from vomiting! Of course, he could have swallowed some and threw it up, but they can tell by how old the blood is and tests on his stomach and so forth. It could very well be why he was having respiratory problems too though. It was draining down his nasal passages into his bronchial tubes, shutting off his airway. YES! We must hope and pray the best for him!!!!

This is another example of the fine upstanding people of Harrisburg doing what is right. Can you hear the sarcasm in my voice? My son was attacked at the high school football locker room this time last year, because a young man “heard” he was called a name. Even after he was told he was not going to fight, the other boy sucker punched him, so med his head into a concrete wall and hit and kicked my son in the head with football cleats on. NOTHING was done to this kid NOTHING! More than 8 boys recorded the whole thing on their phones instead of stopping the fight or getting help. The kid lives in Carrier Mills but gets to go to Harrisburg cause he can dribble a basketball. the school had the phone recordings deleted before the police could see it. the school officials and the boys who recorded this, and the boy who assaulted my son are all worthless trash. The school officials have just shown every kid at that school all you gotta do is play basketball and you can get away with felony assault. I am paying over $100,000 in medical and dental bills because of this and my son still have vision problems and blackouts due to the concussion. the best thing for this community would be to get rid of Smithpeters, And Krank then maybe the kids in Harrisburg could pass state testing, there are more important things than basketball, right?
Holey heck, Hbgmom, why didn’t you travel up north and get yourself a good lawyer? I think it would have cost you a lot less in the long run and maybe taught that bunch a lesson or two.
Update….Bebout had reconstructive surgery on his face Fri. He had to have a steel plate put in his face where looser Wiley broke 3 of his bones in his cheek. He is doing somewhat better but will never be the same.!!!I hope they charge Wiley with attempted murder!
Thanks for the Bebout update, I was just getting ready to have Ang give some sources a call about that. It looks like the only thing he’s going to be charged with it Agg Batt, unfortunately. But with his record, he might actually do some prison time for it.
