Carrier Mills man killed in Marion
MARION—A former Carrier Mills man, Marcus Monroe, has been murdered in Marion.
Monroe, 46, was at a Marion bar, Pips 2 on Boynton Street last night when authorities report he was the victim of a single fatal gunshot wound.
In typical Williamson County style, police aren’t saying whether the shot was fired by someone else or was self-inflicted, although the 911 reports are of “shots” fired, not just one shot. They’re also vague about where exactly Monroe was found; although it was at the bar’s premises, it could have been inside the building, inside his car parked there, or out on the parking lot/spaces. Monroe was taken to Heartland Regional, then flown to Evansville, where he died at Deaconess Hospital.
There have been no arrests made in the incident, but officers of the “major case squad” in Marion are working it.

Hey Jack, His last name is actually Holmes, that’s his real dads last name. Quentin D.’s mom was pregnant with him when she got together with Mr. Fitzgerald. Many years ago when Quentin went to prison the first time on attempted murder for Debra C, I called his mom when I heard it on the radio while at work to tell her about it. Just sayin….But Quentin D. Holmes is no good at all!!!! David P., I am sure can attest to that……
Sure can. I was a year behind him in school but knew him pretty well. He was always kind of weird but I never figured him for a murderer. I guess I was wrong about that one.He shouldn’t have been able to kill Earl Wayne because should have still been in prison for the LAST person he tried to kill. I just looked him up on the DOC website and it says he got 25 years in 1980. Eleven years later in 1991 he got sentenced for murder.
I thought it was someone else in the car that night though, not Marcus.(even though it doesn’t surprise me)
Weird isn’t the word for him. He IS and ALWAYS has been EVIL!!!! To top it off, Earl Wayne was his nephews dad..I will say and I can that Quentin is a POS. PERIOD!!!
Yea, I realize that now. I just didn’t know how nuts he was until after we got out of school. He tried to get an appeal last August but I don’t know how that turned out.
I still don’t think it was Marcus with him that night. The article from last year about his appeal said it was Rodney Williams(another classmate of mine) with him that night and that is the one I thought it was too.
I wasn’t sure who it was. But, if I remember it right, Quentin admitted to shooting him, then took them where he threw the gun. I don’t think they ever found it, but they had his admission to it, I think.
I just always felt horrible for his family because he wasn’t raised that way at all.

I had my facts crossed,Rodney Willams was with fitzgerald when Gulley was shot,Marcus Monroe was a friend of Rodneys,Rodney went with Marcus,s sister Dolly{DOLLIE} Who last i heard lived in Ridgway.Marcuse and i had just talked a few weeks ago when i was gathering wood for camping.He was alwas a good person when we meet.
It’s okay….i took it out. We’re toast today, this week has worn us thin. Going berry picking in the morning at the Wayne Co property…wish us lots of MOABs!!!!

Well I doubt he will be causing any more problems for anyone and this is a good thing. Hate to sound cold but if he chose this lifestyle and chose to be so evil he got what he had coming from the sound of things!
Fart, how can you be so cold to think it was ok for someone to shoot someone when you don’t even know the facts ? What exactly was it that made him so evil? BTW…I’d love to hear what your take on CASEY ANTHONY is. Talk about evil !
I didn’t get all caught up in the casey antthony trial and you’re right I don’t know all thhhe facts but it sure sounds like I have enough facts to say he wasn’t dancin with the saints and I would also wager to say he was involved in something a little less than legal which is why he was shot. No he could have been an innocient bystander but im doubting that since other facts suggest he had a criminal behaviour pattern that may have not been fully recognized. Im not sayin its good to kill but it ain’t all bad when an evil person loses their life either just think about all the children and others that are tortured by bad people and you can come to terms with my statement. Im not here to debate with you on the matter and perhhaps we will never agree…im not running for a public office so being popular ain’t my thing.
No matter how good a person WAS! When they get on drugs they are different.They can go off at anytime and hurt a lot of people.I knew Marcus and 25 years ago he was a good person!Time changes us all for good or worse.
I thought that I had hit every bar in Marion at one time or another and I don’t even recall this one. Was this the one between South Market and Court Street, just east of the Hucks store?
Dennis, I don’t know the streets for sure but it was over by one of the parks…which was ( is ) a stopping place for drugs & trouble.
Dennis, pretty sure you got the right location. Just across the street from housing and up towards court past Ashley Park. When I go to my rent house over there I use Boynton street and go past it on the left(south) side of the street.
S&S they did find the wepon in the Carrier Mills resivore,I went by there when they had him and were looking for it.Rodney Williams testified against him and got nothing out of it.

Yes! Holmes had stilen them earler that week and took some bace to Wayne for a reward.Thats when thing went bad,For Wayne had suspected Holmes of stealing them all along and was just going to give him a little bit of money.But Holmes was on cocain and wanted it all.Homes shot him with his own shot gun.

As a matter of fact,Dolly Monroe had just gave Rodney Williams money the day before to pay for the work i had done on her car.We made a payment deal to help her out so she could get to work.Rodney didnt show with the money or to get the car.She called me later and wanted to know if i had seen Rodney and i told her he was a no show.Later on she called and was crying because she needed her car and Rodney had bought drugs with the money and was with Holmes{Fitzgerald}.I felt sorry for her and let her have her car.
He was personable, but he did live a rough, selfish life.

@1_774_1: It’s on West Boynton. At the Marion city council meeting last night, one of the councilmen was bitching because there was no legal way to shut them down. Good ol liberal sentiment, “gotta shut down that free enterprise!” Just because there are shootings…..please….this shit happens all the time in bigger towns. Yet there are still plenty of bars in Chicago and St. Louis, Do they want business or do they not want business?
Well after Dolly got her car back,Marcus brought it back with a few adjustments that needed to be made.I wasnt home so he took it on his self to steal 2 tool boxes of my tools.A witness saw him and told me about it.I called SCSD and informed them who had /or somebody had stole my tools but got nothing out of it.A nother lose for the working man!
I read in another article there were 50 people in the parking lot. WTF? I’m wondering if Marcus was an inncocent bystander or was he involved. Fifty people and no one can identify the shooter?
amazing things happen when people are afraid they could be next on the hitmans list! Kinda like when a states attorney has someone on charges and offers a plea bargain in return for info on some other person or the state says plea to this or go to jail on another count of whatever it is they happen to be trying you on. Its called the fear factor and most people cave in to this.
