Bad wreck south of Fairfield on Highway 45

Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 released information this afternoon concerning a two-vehicle traffic crash, which occurred in Wayne County, at 4:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 8th. According to Illinois State Police District 19, Troopers investigated a two-vehicle traffic crash on U.S. 45 at County Road 425N (New Hope Road). The traffic crash involved a 2006 Freightliner pulling a flat bed semi trailer loaded with aluminum coils and a 2011 Autocar garbage truck.

The preliminary traffic crash investigation indicated that the driver of the 2006 Freightliner, Casey G. Massengill, age 24 of Middlesboro, KY, was traveling north on U.S. 45 just south of County Road 425N (New Hope Road) when he failed to negotiate the curve. The truck tractor and trailer he was driving went into the south bound lane of travel before overturning on its side. The Freightliner slid into the path of a south bound truck driven by Kevin L. Johnston, age 46, of Fairfield. Mr. Johnston’s vehicle was a 2011 Autocar garbage truck.

Mr. Massengill died due to the injuries sustained in the traffic crash.. Mr. Johnston was transported to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for the treatment of his injuries.

Ricks Towing removed the vehicles and semitrailer from the crash scene.

The Illinois State Police was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, and IDOT.

    What a tragedy for everyone involved. Its a shame for sure and idk if he had any children but if he did they must be lost right now with this news about their dad. I hope mr johnston has a fast recovery as well.

    Our brother was killed on the 12th of last month, in a motorcycle accident. Our prayers go out to the families involved in this accident. I know the pain of losing someone in such a tragic and sudden way. Thank you to all the readers here at Disclosure that prayed for our friends and family.
