Suicidal suspect in New Haven
NEW HAVEN—Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 in Carmi released information just now (around 3:30 pm) concerning a suicidal, barricaded subject, which incident occurred at 161 Franklin Street in New Haven on Sunday, May 29 at approximately 2 am last night.
According to ISP, troopers responded to a suicidal subject with a gun at that residence. Upon arrival, the subject displayed a pistol at the trooper. The residence was also occupied by family members of the suspect, who were later evacuated.
An ISP SWAT team, along with hostage negotiators, responded to the scene. Negotiations continued until the suspect was apprehended by SWAT team members at approximately 12:18 pm today without incident.
The suspect was identified as Brandon S. Smith, 31, from New Haven. Smith was charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, no FOID card and Forcible Detention. Smith was taken to the White County Jail in Carmi.
ISP was assisted by the Gallatin County sheriff’s department, Gallatin County EMA and Gallatin County Ambulance Service.

Elwood, you know, I can’t either unless they are in such a state of depression and feel they have no purpose of living with no one to help or get them help to see them through..I dunno, but thankfully, he wasn’t able to succeed in his quest to end his own life! Maybe this was HIS cry for help? I feel with suicides when people really WANT to end their life, they let no one know and just do it…
