A bird’s-eye view of the historic 2011 Flood

WAYNE/WHITE/WABASH/LAWRENCE COs.—The first three photos courtesy of one of our correspondents yesterday, who braved his fear of flying and toured the area for an hour and a half!

Above, Wayne County south of Fairfield, a view of Interstate 64.

Above and below, different shots of Carmi…the place where we had a hard time getting around yesterday.

These next photos were sent to us by Lawrence County readers. They were apparently taken on a flyover after the levee breached yesterday at the Embarrass and Wabash early in the morning, 05.04.11. Don’t know who took them; Jess Angle will probably take credit for it, though. And of course, take credit for the fact that, just like in the 2008 flood, “nobody died.”

And then they apparently tooled on down to Wabash County, getting these shots of the riverfront, including Duke Energy fka Cinergy fka Public Service Indiana always known as the spewer of increased levels of aerosolized arsenic and mercury thanks to toxic Indiana coal:

Looks like the new bridge is holding.

More to come….keep checking back.

I guess I haven’t been to Evansville via Mt. Carmel in a long time because I think the last time I was that way, there was a old covered with metal type bridge. How long has that new bridge been there?

    • They just opened it a couple of months ago. We hear there are some structural problems with it. We hear someone cut corners between the design phase and the execution phase. We hear that’s why Danny Clayton was escorted off the property at the IDOT location in tha ‘burg or Carbondale or wherever the hell that was. We also hear that he might be facing charges, and that the bridge isn’t safe. Should be an interesting summer.

      • Sounds like he probably stood to get a bonus on coming in under budget ? That’s just great, hardly anything gets done with major infrastructure down here, and when it does you get THAT. I never go that way, I think I went over the old one once in my life, but I would think a ton of ppl would use it daily. Awesome.
