Haunting video of the tsunami, post-quake, that devastated coastal Japan
Tsunami aside, don’t think for a moment that this level of devastation can’t happen here. An 8.9M earthquake CAN. Evidence points to the fact that it HAS. Please, whether you believe it or don’t believe it, do what you can to get prepared and stay prepared. Some of that involves keeping a supply of potassium iodide, which we like to have available to us in droplet form instead of capsules. Because there are nuclear power plants right here in our state:
And for a good read on what can possibly take place during an earthquake of this magnitude, try Walter J. Williams’ “The Rift.”
We read this book seven years ago when we found it while on a mini-vakay to Missouri (New Madrid, actually.) While we sit on the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone faultline, the interconnection with the New Madrid can’t be disputed. If one cracks, the other is going to be going, too.
Don’t let your motto be “eat, drink, be merry, for tomorrow we may die.” Let it be “plan, prepare, preserve your family, for tomorrow, things may turn upside down….and leave us living in the midst of it.”
As a postscript, we’d like to add: DON’T give in to the pleas and donate anything to any relief effort. Relief efforts don’t work. Very little got to the tsunami survivors in 2004-05; virtually nothing got to Haiti last year. Japan is very capable of handling things themselves. They have a diet there that, were there to be even extensive radioactive exposure to the citizens, they will be protected simply because the food they regularly consume is high in iodine/iodide, which is found in sea vegetables (seaweed, algae, kelp). They’ll recover. Keep your money; you need to buckle down and prep for any potential problems here at home.
