MURDER/SUICIDE CONFIRMED IN NORTH CLAY COUNTY
CLAY CO.—We just spoke with a Clay County official who has confirmed that the little spot in the road in north Clay known as Bible Grove was the scene of an incident (reported by our official source to have occurred this morning, although other reports have it as occurring yesterday morning), reportedly involving a murder/suicide.
Our source referred all questions to the sheriff, Jim Sulsberger, who won’t be back in the office until 8 tomorrow morning (02.24.11).
Reports are now coming in that the victims were Thomas Holste, 58, and Mary Holste, 53, both found dead in their home. A weapon was recovered from the scene. An autopsy was to have been conducted today.
We have no other details to report, so if you know anything, feel free to post….please don’t use names….and check back often, as we’ll update just as soon as we get information.

good luck in any autopsy in southern illinois. all you have to do is like playing with dead bodies and be a mortician in the state of illinois to be elected as county coroner. thats pathetic a coroner should have a doctors degree in human pathology. so many errors due to ignorance. believe i have wittnessed this crap in the state of illinois more than once.a doctorate on pathology is as good as being an md if not better.a coroner can tell how not to die a mortician has no idea.its plain stupid. how many bad trials or trumped up cases due to this shit.
I may br wrong but I dont think you can perform an autopsy in Illinois unless you are a M.D. just any joe blow cannot do it. Autopsy is the biggest line item in the coroners budjet. Most use Dr’s from Evansville, Ind that are in the southeastern counties. Morticians do have alot of human pathology education by the time they graduate. No I am not a coroner or a mortician.
Coroners do not perform the autopsy. It is an MD, and yes a lot come from Evansville, IN. I don’t know about this particular case, but my father passed away 10 years ago and the autopsy was performed at the funeral home in Louisville, and the doctor came from Evansville, IN. The coroner just pronounces them dead.
What’s bad about this situation in Clay is that Gary Bright does all the press releases on all the dead people, and he words them in such a way that it appears as though HE’S the one performing the autopsy. Only later do we learn Dr. John Heidingsfelder comes in from E’ville and “does” the autopsy. Talk about self-aggrandizing….Bright’s the definition of it.
Story around here is she left him a week before this happened after 35 years of marriage and he went and killed her and took his own life. Sad, so sad!!! I hear they had 5 children. If so, my heart goes out to them!
They only had one child, but still very sad. My heart goes out to both of their families. I can’t imagine what their son is going through right now.
