After whining about it last week, Phelps finally retires

FORMER everything, a la David Phelps....this from his defunct website

CARBONDALE—We’ve confirmed officially that former U.S. Congressman from Eldorado, David Phelps, submitted a resignation last Friday, Jan. 28, from his current teat job with the Illinois Department of Transportation.

We received news more than a week ago (Monday, Jan. 24) that one employee, engineer Danny Clayton, was told he was terminated from his job at IDOT, and that Phelps was ordered by the state agency that he needed to retire before he was fired.

Mainstream media in South Counties immediately went on the defensive, interviewing Phelps (an Eldorado resident who seems to be glorified in his hometown….and with his ‘religious’ connections, that glorification stops just short of deification, it appears) and giving him an opportunity to proclaim loudly that there was no such thing going on as his removal from the job. This job, incidentally, was provided to him after his loss in 2002 to John Shimkus as U.S. representative from the 19th, after the 20th district was done away with upon district realignment following the 2000 census.

The problem, of course, is that the ‘appointment’ to Phelps’ position as “assistant secretary” came from Rod Blagojevich, who likely did the former congressman nothing more than a favor so he could obtain his state pension after putting in the requisite years. This happens a lot downstate; jobs are created, positions are awarded to those unqualified, and all because these folks are of the right political party.

Current governor Pat Quinn vowed to ‘purge’ the state of Blago appointees after the former gov was removed from office. This, we are told, is what Clayton’s ouster was about…and what Phelps was soon to face. Yet msm really went the distance to allow the little man to whine about how he wasn’t going anywhere….then, by God, he did indeed “retire.”

We’re paying for him, Illinois, because he’s collecting that pension, for basically doing nothing. Next time you get a huge percent of your income swiped away by the state in the form of ever-increasing taxes, remember that…and remember the media outlets that allowed him to scratch at the truth and cover it over like a cat in a litterbox.

I hope this doesn’t mean he’s going to subject us to more of his “singing” now.

    Errata,
Singing doesn’t have a good pension plan.

Rewarding loosing politicans has been going on for years. As in, Bob Winchester, Glen Poshard. Fire these two and save the state a million.

Actually, giving really good jobs to former politicians is nothing new. I know of a judge that just got voted out of office in Galveston last November that was just given a newly developed job on a economic developement program at $10,000 per month. Then look at all of the sheriffs that get appointed to be wardens of prisons. Some may notice that they are all from a certain political party.
