Death of a young man in Eldorado; UPDATE
ELDORADO—Details are becoming more clear in the death of a young man in Eldorado, Nathan Bowen.
Initially we received reports that indicated there might have been gunplay involved; but since that time we’ve been in contact with sources very close to the family and some of the matter has been clarified (and there has been no gunplay).
Official sources advised us of his name this afternoon.
Sources close to the family have indicated that this was a drug-overdose death. During his freshman year, Nathan was big in sports and especially basketball. Unfortunately, said the sources, there was a terrible basketball accident during which Nathan’s knee was blown. He endured eight surgeries, traveling back and forth from St Louis. This week, he had had his pain pills (Lortabs) refilled. Our sources tell us that he left a note explaining why he was opting to take all of them. His mother had read the note over the phone to the sources.
His MySpace page reflected what was going through his mind, apparently: his last entry, dated Tuesday, gave his status as “lost.”
This is a very tragic situation. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers; not that there is any ‘normal’ drug-overdose death, but this is one that seems out of the ordinary and has a very sad backstory.

I never said he was the 1who stumped his toe and got tabs u dumb ass i said people do and the dr give them tabs for it i am sure u would know all bout that would nt ya
What pisses me off is if this was a black kid crom the mills or burg most people on here would talk n shit and say n he was a junky or addict.
What pisses me off is trying decipher dumbass comments.
Old teamate, I know what you’re sayin’. My son told me he’d better not hear anyone say ANYTHING bad about Nathan or he’d bust their teeth in. I told him, “NO! Because then you are not honoring Nathan & what he was all about”! I told him, in life, no matter how old you get to be, there are always be some negative comments made about every situation. There are several stages to the grieving process, Anger being one of them, but I hope the anger can stay off of here. Nathan would NOT want people arguing over this. He would want everyone to unite, be there for his mom & family & learn from this. THAT’S how he was! =(
I have been keeping up with these posts, because I know Nathan! @well are you seriously you are using the black thing really? No one cares if you are black or white, from Harrisburg or Carrier Mills! Nathan was not a junky, he was smart and caring! He had mean taking meds for awhile and was in alot of pain, it is sad no matter who you are or where you are from! The point here is a mother lost her child, it is heartbreaking!!
that was supposed to be been not mean, Sorry I was thinking about how mean people can be!
How is the race card even remotely relevant in this situation? @well, I believe YOU just attempted to make this a white black controversy. Are you racist or something? I didn’t know the young man, however I do know what its like to lose someone way too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. And great job on respecting the family Disclosure. You guys catch way too much flak sometimes.
Well, thanks chester…but I don’t think that comment was meant to be racist; I think it was just an observation. Think about it for a minute. There’s every possibility that it would happen just that way. It’s peoples’ preconceived notions that get them thinking like that, and past incidents. I don’t think it’s a controversy under the circumstances; I think it could very likely be the case.
Hopefully though we’ll never have to find out….and this is such a miserably sad situation for Nathan’s family that we can see folks taking immediate offense to the idea. So let’s continue to be careful, even when issuing just an observation like that, commenters. Thanks.
@Jack…well put, my friend.
Nathans visitation has been a continuous line & a many people there….just sayin..
i would have to agree with ashley completley. an @sweet&sour he had many friends an family. he is very missed!! we all love him an miss him dearly! R.I.P nate! i love yu an miss yu! =(
@well, you are a moron if you don’t think the drugs were the cause of this. I have seen far too many who have battled with the depression that is CAUSED by the pain meds. A generally happy person who has never experienced depression does not have the coping skills to understand or deal with the suddenness with which it overtakes your life. My hope is that Nathan’s family will honor his memory by speaking out against pharamaceutical companies pushing cheap painkillers that have such devastating side effects.
@Well,
I do understand where you are coming from in saying that these pills are overprescribed to anyone who complains of any ailment, and I agree. However, this is not the case in this situation. Nathan was homebound from school for much of the last three years because the amount of pain he was in made him unable to function. The first doctor botched his surgery so bad that the doctor who performed the second surgery literally said to his mother “There really isn’t anything I can do to fix it. He has stripped everything out of this knee to the point that there’s nothing left to work with. I have never seen anything of this caliber on a person so young.”
The last thing Nathan would have wanted would be for his friends to be on here arguing with people. Let them say what they want, you had the privilege of knowing Nate, and if they have a single negative thing to say about him, they obviously didn’t.
I feel blessed that I knew Nathan his entire life. I watched him grow up and change from an onry little boy (aren’t they all, though?) to a wonderful young man with a huge heart who impacted so many lives. I am proud to have been part of his life. I am thankful to be one of the lives that he touched.
@tay89, Very well said and all true! RIP Nathan!! You were and still are a remarkable young man. You are bringing light to so many, although you have gone to a better place of peace! I am so sorry that your pain on this Earth was so unbearable, but God wanted you home with Him. That makes you very special forever!!!! RIP, honey!
hahaha get smacked right?…im so sure
R.I.P. Nathan!!!!!!!!! Now the question I am asking is the text messages found on Nathan’s phone? Apparently the Eldorado High School has fired a basketball coach and this has checked in rehab over this. What was the text message (big Question) mystry as usual for Eldorado
