Jared Loughner, darling of the wacky left

Is this guy going for the insanity defense? Why yes, yes he is...if his mug is any indication

Just a normal-looking kid, right? Eh....not so much.

Well, we weren’t going to do it, since we’ve got so much going on in our little corner of hell aka southeastern Illinois, but what you think about this situation compels us, and we really want to hear your opinion.

Is this guy going for the insanity defense? Why yes, yes he is...if his mug is any indication

This here is Jared Loughner, soon-to-be darling of the liberal left if any of their agendas get forwarded because of what he is alleged to have done on Saturday: Opened fire on a crowd during a meet-and-greet at a Tucson, Arizona grocery store for a congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords. When the gunman was done, 18 people were shot, six of them fatally, including a federal judge and a nine-year-old girl who DOB was 9.11.01. Creepy, but heart-wrenching as well.

Giffords remains hospitalized following a gunshot wound to the head. Loughner has sealed his own doom by proclaiming this was a deliberate act, as Giffords, a Democrat, was his U.S. representative to Congress, and he had it in for her.

So while all the commentators and pundits are dissecting Loughner and his 22 years on this earth, those of us who don’t have TV and were too busy with, well….a LIFE to be caught up in the obsession of the latest nut-case are able to see the forest for the trees because the trees aren’t really in the way after all.

People don’t need to be obsessed with this freak.

People need to be watchful of what’s going to happen BECAUSE of this freak and his freakish actions, the actions, not of a nut who listened to too much talk radio or clicked on Stormfront too many times, but of a nut who was constantly in a state of rage (“angry at the world”) and was “whacked out on drugs all the time.”

What is going to happen?

A crackdown on weapons of any and all kinds, and a forwarding of the gun controllers’ agenda?

A diminishing of logical voices on the airwaves (“talk radio”), because it’s “hate speech”?

Just a normal-looking kid, right? Eh....not so much.

How about the end of “face-to-face” meet and greets with out U.S representatives, further widening the gap between “us,” the little people who aren’t ‘leaders,’ and “them,” federal employees whom many of us see as ‘elitists’?

Maybe all of them.

And don’t think it’s extreme; and don’t think it’s not on ‘their’ agenda, because it is. It’s documented. It’s in a file somewhere, tucked away, ready and waiting for just the right opportunity because you should never let a good crisis go to waste, you know.

So let’s hear your opinions…because we’re just waiting for the backlash of this, and we’re waiting to see if those of us with common sense (the three C’s: common sense, Constitutional conservatives) can prevail against the socialists who are trying to really widen the divide, and separate us from what it is that once made this country great, but is quickly diminishing with each ‘crisis’ and ‘disaster’ that they step in and ‘save us’ from.

Go to, readers.

  1. @SouthernILGirl – Deer, coyotes, racoon, rabbit, geese, duck, moose, bear, caribou, BIG CATS (lol), the guy breaking into my house, or whatever the prey of the day happens to be.

A **gasp** semiautomatic firearm isn’t half as scary as it sounds. Even the much maligned “assault” rifles – ARE USED FOR HUNTING. I know, I know – It can’t be, that’s not what the news says, it’s not what the Brady Bill talked about, it has a clip, it’s scary looking…. Yeah, I get it. But facts are facts. Even though they are portrayed as evil human killers – they do have a legitimate purpose to a sportsman. They function NO DIFFERENTLY than traditional looking semi-auto rifles, shotguns, and handguns.

  2. Dennis J. Bridwell

Semi-auto handguns have been around for well over 100 years. The Germans made a Model 96 sometimes called “The Broomhandle” that fired both semi-auto and fully automatic in 9mm or 30 Mauser. The German Luger with it’s 32 round “snail drum” magazine was available in 1902 if I am not mistaken.
The U.S. Colt .45ACP Model 1911 was introduced… hmmm I am not sure about that one. :((

  3. U.S. Colt .45ACP Model 1911 – ***swoon***
    THE finest handgun ever made.
She’s my mistress – Mistress Kimber. I have to go out of town to see her, hold her, talk to her. My wife knows about her, but doesn’t seem to mind. I do wonder if that would change if I brought her home?? LOL

  4. goneforgood

@Dennis-I would suggest seizing the alcohol instead of the car.

  5. CMHS 1980

misanthrope……….It seems that we share the same mistress. My wife lets me keep mine by the bed and she has handled her herself a few times.

  6. CMHS 1980

Someone posted that semi-auto rifles were not used for hunting and therefore should be banned. My Rock River AR-15 is one of, if not the most accurate rifles I own. (and I own quite a few) It is my coyote/ groundhog rifle and I use it a lot. What people fail to mention is that the second amendment does not guarantee the right to hunt or to own a gun for hunting purposes. It has nothing to do with hunting. It has everything to do with protection. Usually that protection is from other individuals or sometimes animals but I think the most important reason is as a system of checks and balances. Armed citizens are much harder to corral and slaughter than disarmed citizens. It was put in place to give the people a way to take back over their own government as a last resort. Before any of you start thinking that I am calling for an armed uprising I’ll just say that the ballot box is the proper way to settle this and I hope it never comes to the other way.

  7. Dennis J. Bridwell

@goneforgood, the alcohol didn’t slam into the carload of kids, the car did. I think my point went over some folk’s head on that analogy. I meant that it is just as ridiculous to disarm decent, honest folks because some mental case shot someone as it would be to take cars from safe drivers because some drunk or an idiot talking on a cell phone caused some wrecks.

  8. Sweet&Sour

Dennis, I got it. And I really think goneforgood did as well. Maybe was just being a lil sarcastic or funny perhaps..it’s really hard to say anymore, I KNOW!! Believe ME… :[

  9. goneforgood

Dennis, I am not disarming anyone. I am just suggesting that certain firearms are a little over the top. Oh, by the way, I know that guns do not kill people, it is the bullets.

  10. Sweet&Sour

goneforgood…LOL…Now I really need to get some rest so I wish I could pull myself away from here, but it started with Russell NY making me laugh my butt off with one of his hysterical lyrics this morning. Check it out..It’s on the… what the heck is it with C’mills child molesters….or something like that…

  11. Dennis J. Bridwell

@goneforgood, Could you give me an idea of what guns that you feel are “a little over the top”? Not trying to argue, simply wanting to try to understand what people fear the most about guns.

  12. goneforgood

My opinion is that automatic weapons are over the top. I am not a gun expert, by far, but I feel that, in the wrong hands, they create a much more deadly force. I see it as being like pharmaceuticals. Some of them, with the right prescription, have the ability to heal. The same drug, in the wrong hands, will create more illness or death. That is why you have to get a prescription to get them. Since we have no way to keep the crazies from getting the same guns as sane gun enthusists like yourself(hope that’s not too big of an assumption), I am in favor of restricting their availability. Add bazookas in that list also.

  13. goneforgood

    Oops, make that “enthusiasts”.

  14. ambu_u_2

goneforgood can you give some cases where a legally owned fully automatic weapon was used in the commission of a crime? Just how often do you think it happens?

  15. goneforgood

Ambu: No I can not. I unfortunately lump semi-auto and fully auto together. I can say that it seems that most shootings like those in AZ are done with more than just a 6 shooter. I admit I have no facts and no statistics, just my personal feeling. Never claimed otherwise.

  16. ambu_u_2

Forming your opinion on “feeling” and not using any fact or logic, need to say no more.

  17. goneforgood

Fact and logic are always debatable. Your facts and logic are my rumors and hearsay. Enjoy your guns. Teach people how to use them properly. You figure out how to keep them out of the hands of nut jobs and criminals.

  18. CMHS 1980

Does anyone have the statistics on how many people are killed with full auto weapons? I think the number is very low but not sure just how low. In the hands of a someone trained to use them they are highly effective but in the hands of most of us they would be a handicap. I saw a friend shoot at five bowling pins with one and it took him longer than it did with a good semiauto pistol and took a LOT more ammo. With that said I see no reason that a law abiding citizen shouldn’t own all of them that he can afford along with a few bazookas to boot. All you have to do is cross the Ohio river into Kentucky, give Uncle Sam a few hundred bucks and pass a background check to own one. I don’t remember seeing many news reports of people getting gunned down in the streets with full auto fire in Kentucky and I can assure you there are a bunch of them around.

  19. CMHS 1980

Was the shooting in Arizona in a gun free zone?

  20. ambu_u_2

Considering you lump semi and full auto into one group,(considering the difference is black and white.) its pretty clear that you wouldn’t know the difference between facts, logic, rumors or hearsay.

  21. ambu_u_2

CMHS 1980 there have been two people killed with a legally owned full auto weapon….since 1934. One by a cop, the other a Dr.

  22. CMHS 1980

The problem is that you CAN’T keep them out of the hands of the nutjobs and criminals. The solution is to arm the rest of us better than they are so we can fight back.

  23. goneforgood

CMHS, then where were all of the “Legal” gun holders when this nut job started firing? I see very few stories where a normal citizen(Non-law enforcement) has stopped a crime from being committed or stopped a crazy shooter from killing people. Are all gun carriers to afraid to shoot their gun when needed? I understand that many find firing a gun at targets or animals to be a fine form of recreation. I am getting a little tired of people claiming it is for “protection” when it does not seem to be “protecting” anyone.

  24. CMHS 1980

ambu_u_2…..Thanks and sorry to mirror what you were saying a minute ago. I was typing and didn’t see your post until after I hit submit.

  25. Dennis J. Bridwell

Illinois is a Non-Machine Gun (read fully automatic weapon) state. The only way you can own one here is to be a Class III dealer and pay $500 per year to do business as such.
As far as the number of people killed with fully automatic weapons, I don’t know about illegal ones but since 1928 there has only been one crime committed with a Class III weapon by it’s registered owner. That was in the 80s a man in Texas tried to kill his girlfriend’s husband with a silenced .22 Ruger. All other crimes involving fully automatic Class III weapons were illegally obtained or totally illegal weapons.
I owned two fully auto machine guns when I lived in Texas, a 1943 dated German MP-40 9mm and a 1943 dated Russian PPsH-41 in 7.62X25, it would also fire .30 mauser. The MP-40 used 32 round magazines and the PPsH-41 used a 71 round drum magazine. The MP-40 had a 500-600 RPM rate of fire while the PPsH-41 had a 900-1,000 RPM rate of fire. They were a real hoot to shoot.
I knew many owners of Class III weapons and most were used at WWII reenactments, not even firing live ammo.
As I have said before, Ted Kennedy’s car has killed more people than any of my guns have.

  26. CMHS 1980

Goneforgood…. That is why I just asked if this took place in a gun free zone, I know Arizona residents have the right to carry but some places they aren’t allowed to do so. I think the school board shooting in Florida a few months ago was in a gun free zone also.

  27. Dennis J. Bridwell

BTW, the cop that shot his girlfriend’s husband did not die and it was a Class III because it was a silenced weapon, not a machine gun. The cop’s name was Wayne Messenger. I have never heard of a doctor shooting anyone with a machine gun, when did that happen?

  28. goneforgood

In reference to Ted’s car, there is no doubt about that. I can’t change the gun supporters minds, and you will not be able to change mind. As I said before, enjoy your guns. Hope you only have to use them for recreation and never for protection.

  29. Dennis J. Bridwell

LOL, goneforgood, thank you for finally admitting to being closed-minded! ;)

  30. goneforgood

No problem. I think it is a requirement to register on this site!LOL.

  31. ambu_u_2

There was a study done by criminologist Gary Kleck, the study estimated that in 1993 there were approximately 2.5 million incidents in which victims used guns for self-protection.

  32. CMHS 1980

Those usually don’t make the news though.

  33. CMHS 1980

But let someone get robbed or killed with or without a firearm being involved and they always have a picture of a gun on the news.

  34. goneforgood

You can not trust Kleck. He went to the University of Illinois.

  35. ambu_u_2

Dr Shou something or other. Was in 1992

    http://members.cox.net/arporro/photos/Shooting.pdf

The LEO I was referencing is Roger Waller, Dayton Ohio

  36. ambu_u_2

The guy is a criminologist, has a PHD and you dismiss it? I’m not even going to bother.

  37. CMHS 1980

You know what PHD stands for don’t you. Everybody knows whhat b.s. is, M.S. is More of the Same, and PHD is Piled Higher and Deeper.

  38. ambu_u_2

CMHS, most of the time I would agree with that BUT I would bet dollars to doughnuts that the PHD doesn’t lump semis and full auto into one group. 8)

  39. 1.68

cnhs1980 how original. I have known that for years. I have 2 degrees, guess what I am just more skeptic.

  40. CMHS 1980

That was just meant as a joke. I have no reason to doubt your source. I would imagine there are a few PHD

  41. 1.68

the guy from Arizona needs to suffer. Never hurt a child. That is sick and very hurtful

  42. CMHS 1980

DAMN :choler: WRONG KEY.. a few PHD’S out there that would confuse the two if it served their purpose

  43. ambu_u_2

CMHS I knew what you were meaning :) I always liked “those who cant do…teach…those who cant teach….administrate.”

  44. Dennis J. Bridwell

Any bets on this Loughner’s defense team’s strategy? This poor boy was tormented since childhood for his wild eye looks and his ramblings that made him an outcast and not accepted by his classmates.
His father is drawing disability for being a chronic alcoholic so he couldn’t work as it took away from his time he wanted to devote to laying around drunk thus he couldn’t devote more time to little Jared.
Yes, this tragedy is society’s fault, well that and the gun manufacturer’s.

  45. Unfortunately, Dennis, you’re probably right. Don’t forget to throw in the “evil voices from the right” telling him to do it…

  46. ambu_u_2

Cant leave out music, movies and video games!

  47. Sweet&Sour

Dennis, Don’t leave out the part where one of the neighbors that grew up next to him said his mother would never allow him outside to play, alone or with the other kids. Odd family, he called them.

  48. Dennis J. Bridwell

I find it hard to believe but the Liberals are still pushing the theory that Loughner was under the influence of Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, et al. It would be nice if they would put forward even a tiny bit of evidence to support this silly notion.
Obviously the guy was mentally unbalanced, this is clear. Why do these Liberal media people continue to harp that Sarah Palin had anything to do with this? Because the Liberal media fears the message that Sarah Palin brings. She is against the Socialist style government that the Liberals are promoting and the hate her for it, they want her to shut up and go away. They will smear her on anything and everything they can, true or not, usually untrue.

  49. goneforgood

@ Dennis, This is one time that we agree. Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck had nothing to do with this shooting. I think it is clearly a case where a nutbag with no business having a weapon went off the deep end. I have seen no evidence that this guy even had anything to do with the conservatives, Palin, Beck, or the Tea Party. The blame falls on the shooter and our inability to keep psychos like this from getting guns.
