A little bit about Shannon Deuel…
ELDORADO—There has been considerable interest on our site here about the subject of Eldorado chief of police Shannon Deuel, and why we haven’t been writing about him.
The answer to that ‘why’ would be that he had, up to a few weeks ago, been laying kinda low.
However, it was at that time we learned that there were several complaints coming in to the Eldorado city council about Deuel’s behavior of late…including Deuel’s reported reaction to one woman’s complaint, wherein he was so angry when he left the parking lot that he spun gravel all over (whether any of it landed in the direction of the woman who complained, or did any other damage, is unknown at this time.)
This reaction was observed by officials, and Deuel was subsequently pulled in to an executive session, reportedly last Monday night (08.23.10), where his behavior, and the complaints, were addressed at length.
Now, because this is stuff limited to the city council and executive session, we’re not exactly clear on the number or nature of the complaints. We understand it has something to do with unprofessional behavior on Deuel’s part when dealing with the public. We would try to reach him for comment, but we hear he’s kinda stressed right now and might not be in too much of a mood to talk to us. Also, we hear that until a couple of weeks ago, he was down to working two days per week because he reportedly has some sideline job, working for some security company more toward the center of the state (Springfield/Champaign, but also in the Effingham area). A big problem the council reportedly had with this sideline was that he was supposedly driving the city’s squad car when performing his company duties. If we were the city council, we’d have a problem with that, too…but of course, all of this is unconfirmed.
Anyway, there’s more. But we’re likely going to save it for the print version. We just wanted to give you a preview of what’s coming up in future issues…keep watching, and give your input.
