Both men involved in August 7 Bridgeport altercation charged

BRIDGEPORT—Both James Brunson and Jody Harshman, involved in an early-morning altercation outside Brunson’s Bridgeport package store business Aug. 7, have been charged formally today in Lawrence County circuit court.

Brunson has been charged with Aggravated Battery in a Public Place (for defending himself against Harshman after Harshman withdrew from Brunson’s property, then charged Brunson as Brunson was placing a 911 call to the sheriff’s department and following Harshman down the street to keep an eye on him), Harshman has been charged with Criminal Damage to Property for allegedly busting out windows of Brunson’s place, which Brunson observed and which prompted Brunson to take action against Harshman in the first place.

We’ll have full coverage of the matter in the print version, on stands early next week…

Toldja! Brunson’s in a bunch more trouble than the perp! The word on the street is: after Brunson’s gun jammed, he chased the perp to in front of Jack’s Barber shop and pistol whipped him! The perp never entered Brunson’s business! Life is not fair………..

    • Nope. That’s not the way it went down. Brunson didn’t chase anyone. He was walking several yards behind Jody so he wouldn’t lose sight of him, as Jody had already chucked the hammer and if they caught him, they already weren’t going to catch him with the object used in the damage. So Brunson, with 911 on the phone, was following Jody to see where he was going and so he could report to the police exactly where they were so they could apprehend Jody. When Jody saw that Brunson was following him and was on the phone, Jody turned and charged Brunson. Brunson had no choice but to defend himself.

This will all come out in court and Brunson’s charges will probably be dismissed. I understand that he has already contacted the McGlynns in Belleville. Max is SCREWED.

A bet for justice in Lawrence County is a sucker’s bet…………

Classical example of selective law enforcement!!!!!

They should give Brunson a medal!!!!!

    • It all had to do with the way Murray made the report. I’m sure there were key things that he left out that made stuff look worse on Brunson, just like what happened with Derek Blair. That will be found out in discovery. Murray keeps telling us he “has a family to take care of.” Far be it from Murray to take care of his OATH. He has to do what Max orders, or else.

Boss Hogg of Hazzard County. Wonder if their semi-operative E911 even has recording capability. Five years and $ 1 million and not done yet……..

    • And, he called the local sheriff’s department, not 9-1-1, which would have connected him to Crawford County, not Lawrence, as Lawrence doesn’t have 911 capabilities yet. So he was talking to the local yokels…but not to anyone in their uber-fancy 911 building that’s been sitting unused for four or so years now…

Looks like Murray is carrying water for Max. On the Daily Record website, Lisa Wade says Murray lied about having the ISP lead the investigation and now they refuse to become involved at this late date. Whatta mess………

Just finished your latest issue. Hope you nail that bastard who lost his wife and some of his kids. He is lower than whale sh*t. People donated a ton of money to help his remaining kids. Thank goodness it is in a trust fund, but he is working full time to get his hands on it. The fire marshall still hasn’t closed the case, but he has already sold the fire scene. He has been accused of setting other fires in the past.

  7. you are stupid

The perp DID NOT enter even brunson will tell you that, and i got news for you all I know where jody was on the night the fire got started. just somemore crap for bruson to start, and for all of you that don’t know jody was seriously hurt he was chased by gun point shot in the head and pistol wipped. There fore jody was in the wrong yes but when is it necessary for bruson to take the law in his hands and try to kill him which is what he set out to do. Anyone of you know thats wrong but this is lawrence county where people can get a way with attempted murder. So before jamie starts lying about stupid shit about a fire that never happend cause hes running pussy then he needs to shut up!!!!!!!!!!

    • Brunson never said a thing about any fire. However, a vast majority of Bridgeport, and a huge number of people north on up to Chauncey, did. Before you go shooting off your uneducated mouth, maybe you’d better realize there’s a lot more to Jody Harshman than what happened to Brunson.

And please read very carefully all reports about the incident: HARSHMAN WAS NOT SHOT. He wasn’t even “grazed.” That’s already been established. That’s not even debatable. You people need to get off the recreational pharmaceuticals.

As far as ‘taking law into his own hands,’ if my business had been vandalized as much as his had, and I caught A vandal in the act, I’d have done a lot worse. Brunson showed great restraint. The rest of that is this: There is no law in Lawrence, and there’s especially none in Bridgeport. This whole thing is going to result in you bitchers and MaxSupporters eating crow, so if I were you, I’d start tenderizing and seasoning right now, cause I hear it tastes like the ass end out of a moose.
