No, this is NOT a picture of Todd Fort!

Shot earlier this week at Whisker Willy's, Marion

Just for our Todd Fort saga fans…we thought it might be judicious at the point to run this shot that has apparently been going around the cyber world since Monday night this week (August 2), with some people declaring that this was Todd Fort, in the company of what appeared to be an underage blonde, at a well-known bar in Marion, Whisker Willy’s.

The photographer initially believed it to be Fort, who remains incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail in Murphysboro, held on multiple sex assault and official misconduct charges. The man and the young girl were in the company of several other people, according to the report. Just as the photographer had his wits enough about him to realize that if this were Fort, he was out of JAIL, and that this would be a novel matter, he raised the phone to snap the pic…but the man had turned and was on his way out.

A firestorm of info occurred, and ultimately it reached us. We called Jackson County and inquired as to whether Fort had made bond; they said he hadn’t. Apparently, others did the same…being disconcerted about the jailer’s questions as to who was calling regarding the matter (we always tell people up front who we are, but we’re the media and that’s kinda customary. Ordinary citizens sometimes don’t feel comfortable doing that, and we don’t blame them, as it IS public information after all and they should tell the public without raising an inquisition first.) So we’ll just warn you up front: if you call the jail in Murphysboro, they’re going to ask you who you are before they answer your questions…if they answer them.

Later, the photographer figured out that it wasn’t Fort, it was Tom Maynor, former Galatia cop, apparently just enjoying a night on the town. But it did create quite a stir. So we figured we’d make sure that if any of you get a cell phone forward with this pic proclaiming it was Fort, we might clear it up for you as the photographer did for us.

Because, after all…there wouldn’t be anyone in MARION who would have the authority to get Todd Fort out of jail, put him in street clothes, find a girl roughly his “type” to accompany him, and take him out for drinks so they could “chat,” then take him BACK to the jail…now, is there…?…

Maynor worked in Carrier Mills? I thought he was the chief of Galatia for a bit. Never knew him to be in Carrier Mills, not recently anyway.

  2. Zoey

Well, there’s always a chance that he did work for the Mills (seems like everyone has worked there)…I wasn’t sure. Is Fort still on the roster of officers at Carrier Mills? He was listed as a part time officer if I remember correctly. I was thinking they might have some hours for him if he doesn’t get convicted of something that will bar him from policing!

  3. endedition

That looks like Paul M. and Kasey Courtney. They really look just like that

  4. Top Cat

Isn’t Maynor a Part Time Cop in Ridgway now?

  5. Zoey

Must be because Ridgway is just a good place to work ;)

  6. myohmy

Who’s that lady with Tom? It sure doesn’t look like his wife.

  7. Ed

Huh! Not really. Worked there. Enough said.

  8. dabby

Yep, I saw that dunce’s post on your FB page- about how he knew it was Fort, that Fort had arrested him and he left because the dunce recognized him and was intimidated. Ha! Ha! Since he posted his number, we should prank call him. :)

  9. WINWKR

@ dabby…well, since NO ONE ELSE ever makes a mistake in their posts on here…please!!

@Zoey…yes he was, but certain things came to light. ;)

    • Yeah, I hope I made that clear in the post. Sometimes the bad cops with their bad haircuts and complexions can get even the most astute person confused about their identities…I think it was an understandable error. We just wanted folks to be sure and understand about this one, because there are all KINDS of rumors running rampant about Toddly right now….one of them being that he was ‘released’ so that he could go out and talk to these folks in whose company he was supposedly with on the night in question….

  10. salinecolady

hahah! soo funny- before i ever read the article, at first glanced I guessed that it was Maynor. Ya just cant miss those dumbo ears and he is in his typical realm…the bar.

  11. Chris Cox

I am sure that that is his Wife. how can a person say that it doesn’t look like her? Your looking at her backside. lol

  12. ladylu

how can anyone not see this was not Todd Fort this man has a full head od f hair for gods sake

  13. well well

Fort’s new defense it was not me it was Tommy Maynor lol. I do believe he has the rep for what Fort was accused of . But hell he is in Ridgway now so its all good. Galatia town board was smart enough to get rid of him. So Ridgways board and the chief hired him . I think they just want there town on the front page of the disclosure . Admin I am surprised you did not run any thing on The chief of Ridway boy JOhn michale Kitchens getting a D U I last mounth In Old shawneetown and then his Daughter April Kitchen getting 1 a few day latter like a couple blocks a way from the chiefs house by a trooper also. Check with G.C court house they have all the papper work or should by now

    • @well well: we had both of those DUIs loaded and ready to go two months ago and it fell by the wayside when the Fort drama hit. We were scrambling to get Fort under control enough for a two-part series when we were asked not to run it yet, so our time was taken up in two ways: one, working on the Fort story for presentation, and two, scrambling to re-do the front page with other stuff when it didn’t run two months in a row.

Just for the record: we held the Fort story from the June issue at the behest of those working it. Otherwise Fort would have had a heads up that more people knew about his little lifestyle than even HE believed. It also was held from the July issue on the same premise. So…sorry the Kitchens kids didn’t make it. But we talked to Mike about it and told him what had happened. It’s old news now…probably to his relief.

    • I know this story is almost two years old……..but Im curious to know what actually happened in Galatia with Maynor ? …….. was it the issue that occurred at the bar in Dupo, or the issue with him and his ex wife where he was slapped on the wrist ?

  14. Tom Maynor

lol not a bad pic. :) just for the record we had chicken wings…they were great! it was early afternoon. and yes its my wife and she is 29. never knew so many people cared what a coal miner does on his days off. some people try so hard to miss lead or start crap on here. I do think ADMIN does a GREAT JOB of posting news we need to know. keep up the good work. For the “Tom Maynor” fans get a hobby or a job I live a low key life..family and work. The past is the past and life moves on. I have made mistakes but I have learned. Keep in mind you are thinking about me…But I dont think or care about you!

  15. dabby

WINWKR…um, he said “I’d know him anywhere”. Quoted.

  16. dabby

Just an FYI, there are posts on FB asking folks to avoid Whisker Willie’s due to the (female) bartender being a convicted sex offender. Said she’s on the state list. Not trying to start rumors, but something you might want to look into??? Of course, Poorboys in Harriburg hired a waitress awaiting a murder trial a few years back. She was convicted of that murder. Guess bars don’t care about the background checks.

  17. Dabby

I will ask and see what I can find out. Never been there myself. All I know is that she’s blonde. The Poorboy’s waitress was Liz Tolbert. Murdered her husband in Hardin County…got away wth it for a little while, enough to make some tips at Poorboy’s.

Adm. Please read this and make sure that i understand this correct.

  20. Dabby

Admin, will e-mail you the info this evening!

  21. buckmaster

In forts refusing to resign his position as board president.

  22. buckmaster

If the president or clerk is absent from any meeting or refuses to perform his duties, a president or clerk pro tempore shall be appointed. At each regular and special meeting which is open to the public, members of the public and employees of the district shall be afforded time, subject to reasonable constraints, to comment to or ask questions of the board.

  23. goneforgood

Appointing a president pro tempore, does not remove the current president. It only provides that someone is in charge of the meeting and the president is in charge at the next meeting he attends.

  24. man kind

i jus read the disclosure in print. STACY GOLDMAN is winfred’s girlfrin !!!!!! she has 3 kids by his brother randy. she’s a doper and used to narc but not sure bout now. just had to say that is a JOKE

  25. buckmaster

yes ,i guess? I was really hoping to help remove him,so our school board can get on with itself and conduct with some sort of dignity. It.s gonna be a barn stormer at the next one!

  26. Hardluck Hannah

It’s not a good situation, I’ll agree. But excuse me, why would you think the school board can’t continue on and conduct itself with some sort of dignity. They didn’t do anything wrong and they ought to be adult and smart enough to continue on without the board’s president. I’m sure they aren’t the only school board to suffer such an event as this one. Stop worrying about Todd Fort and start thinking about the upcoming school year and Harrisburg School District’s financial situation. Don’t worry about Todd Fort. He has enough of his own right now.

  27. Endedition

very well said Hannah! The district, much like the state is broke. Of course so is the nation. However the kids always come first.

  28. ccc

any one can tell thats tom maynors goofy ass !!!i knew it as soon as the pic loaded

  29. buckmaster

Hannah, uhh, the school board and fort may have a whole hell of alot to do with the finances! Why did they ask for his resignation? As long as I have family in this area I WILL continue to worry about every damn aspect of the board!

  30. Hardluck Hannah

That’s understandable, Buckmaster, as you should be. So should everyone else that has a child or grandchild in the school systems. Perhaps more thought should be given to this when the next school board election takes place. Nobody really seems to care and nobody wants the headache for such a thankless job as serving on a school board. But the thing is, somebody has to do it. I’m sure the school board asked for Fort’s resignation to save face and make it look like they were at least making the effort to do something, when in effect there is nothing they can do at this point. I’m quite certain the school board or school system is the last thing on Fort’s mind right now. He has much bigger problems. However, he won’t resign at this point because if he did, it would make him look guilty, or should I say even more so than he is already looking. Besides, his attorney would never stand still for him resigning either. I’ve said this before and I’ll repeat it again, just because Fort isn’t there serving as President of the school board doesn’t mean the rest of the board can’t go on without him and that’s what they need to do…go on WITHOUT HIM.

  31. Hardluck Hannah

I responded to you, Buckmaster, but the ghost has me again. ;-)

  32. try to be nice

@hardluck hannah, I so much agree with your post as I generally do, you seem to be a voice of reason in a sea of insanity.

  33. buckmaster

Hannah,We are almost at agreement on this ,but the way i read what i posted is they do not need his resignation, No where can i find in the general assemby rules what gone for good is saying. If the president or clerk is absent from any meeting or refuses to perform his duties, a president or clerk pro tempore shall be appointed. It does not say anywhere that he can return when he wants too! That is my entire reason for posting all this! The school board has many ,many responsibilities and a full board is needed And yes it is all for free and alot is very thankless, Even a better reason to fill all the slots and move on.

  34. goneforgood

Buckmaster, president pro tempore is Latin for temporary president. Literally it translates to “for the time being”. It is how legisative bodies operate when the president is not present.

    • Yeah, sorry buckmaster. Goneforgood is right…”pro temp” is just Latin for “sit in,” basically. They can’t fill Fort’s slot until the next election. Think Raymond Martin. He’s still sheriff and will be until Nov. 3 this year (technically, December when the duly-elected winner takes the oath). They don’t go to Raymondo and confer over anything; it’s just that he’s ELECTED, and as I said repeatedly, there is NO recall option in the state of Illinois. So there he’ll be unless he can’t fulfill his duties, at which time there might be a special election at the next available election IF the county can afford it and wants to do it.

The only option is for Fort to step down, the party to caucus, seat someone for the unexpired term, and move on. And apparently, that ain’t gonna happen, because little Toddly is proclaiming his innocence, and to resign would, to him, be indicative of GUILT.

  35. Hardluck Hannah

I know where you’re coming from, Buckmaster, but he was voted in by the people, he was chosen as President of the board by the board. Am I not right about this, Admin? As long as he is absent, there is someone to fill his position on a temporary basis. I’m not sure what happens if he continues to miss meetings, I’ve never been on a school board before. I would think eventually he will submit his resignation, but that may be way down the line. And IF he should make bond, which CAN HAPPEN, then no telling when the charges against him will be heard. Until then, if he is free, he just may have enough guts to attend those meetings in the position of President of the Board. Who knows what he’ll do. I wouldn’t try to second guess him at this stage of the game. Hell, I thought he was a nice guy and I liked him. I never dreamed anything like this could ever happen, not with a guy like him. Just goes to show you how a person can be so badly misjudged. Right? Let’s assume he does make bond and does return to the school board meetings? Do you think the rest of the board members could treat him with respect? I doubt it. It’s nothing more than a legal ploy on his part. He simply can’t afford to resign right now and they don’t have the authority to remove him. Plain and simple. But they are obligated to do the best they can in their elected positions. So let’s see how well they fare. Shall we?

  36. buckmaster

Goneforgood, I understand that. A new member can be appointed pro tempore until the next election! Thus removing him from his position until next election. Ryan and blago,it is how our legislative body operates,

  37. buckmaster

didn.t mean to be a smartass on that last part, but similar.

  38. buckmaster

but isn.t the president appointed from and by the board.

  39. Hardluck Hannah

Well, look at it this way, Buckmaster. Raymond Martin is still drawing his salary from Gallatin County (right, Admin?). At least Todd Fort isn’t getting paid anything, not even his salary from the Sheriff’s Dept. (right Admin?). So as they say down under “no worry”. ;-)

    • Yes and yes. But it looks like buckmaster is worried about the ‘president’ part…something for which Fort draws no pay (nor does any school board member from their participation). Yes, they could remove him as ‘president.’ But they can’t remove him as a school board member. If we had a recall law, they could. But if we had a recall law, there’d be a whole cottage industry revolving around developing forms for people to use in order to petition to have elected officials removed after each and every election.

This state SUCKS when it comes to government of any form.

  40. buckmaster

sorry hannah, for some reason your post popped in 30 minutes later. But anyway you finally understand what i am getting at.He went from a elected board member to an appointed presidential position ,as per the ill. general assembly,ok! Now if he refuses to do the job, a new president can be seated pro tempore, No where in the school board duties does it say that he can go back to being a board member whenever he chooses. I will also add nowhere that i have found ,and i have read the entire school board duties as pertaining in the illinois general assembly. I wish someone could show me otherwise, but not yet!

    • buckmaster: It doesn’t say it because it’s unwritten. There is no recall law in the state of Illinois. He can go back to being a board member as soon as he is free on bond. He IS CURRENTLY a board member. If he bonds out tomorrow, he can attend subsequent board meetings and conduct them as president. He can attend to the business of the school board. HE CANNOT BE REMOVED AS AN ELECTED OFFICIAL unless he misses a proscribed number of meetings, and then there’s a procedure that I’m hearing is somewhat arduous.

What’s wrong here? Am I using too extensive of a vocabulary? Why isn’t this coming across?

  41. try to be nice

    Seems fairly straightforward to me.

  42. Hardluck Hannah

Easy, Admin…your patience must be wearing thin. I think Buckmaster gets it, he just wishes there was some way to assure that Fort didn’t come back to the school board alive and well. Thing is, he can come back if he’s released on bond and the board can’t stop him.

@buckmaster: Maybe you ought to give this one a rest. I don’t know how much clearer Admin or I can make it. I hate it and know you’re concerned, but this is just the way it is.

  43. goneforgood

Maybe this will clarify it. He can’t be taken off the board, until after the conviction and sentencing and then only after an arduous process. He possibly could be removed as president but can not be removed from the board. Fort will be a member of this board until the next election, more than likely. Perhaps the voters of Harrisburg will begin to get more involved in their elections.

  44. mythoughts

While he holds on to the position, school board votes could end in a tie. That is why there are seven members on the school board. Should he make bond and attempt to take his seat at the board meetings, it would be a huge embarrassment to the town. Headlines would scream “Member who allegedly committed sexual assault of a student continues to sit on school board.” That is why the regional superintendent needs to do something while the window of opportunity is open now even though it may be an arduous process.

It may take a long time for Fort to face justice. Former Anna-Jonesboro teacher and coach, Eric Willis, charged in 2006 with agg. criminal sexual assault of a minor finally pled guilty last week in Williamson County – 4 years later. The case had been set for trial several times since 2007.

  45. Hardluck Hannah

@mythoughts: First, if you think the local media would ever publish a headline that read the way you put it about Fort’s return to the school board, then you must not live around here too close. That wouldn’t happen. Now the Disclosure might print it that way, but not the local media.
I’m not surprised about the four-year wait in Williamson County. Same thing could transpire here too, or at least I think it could, especially where Fort is concerned.
The school board will have to face the problem of dealing with Fort when/if it arises…if it does. Until then, the only option they have left is to continue on and take it one day at a time.
That’s my thoughts on the situation anyway.

  46. specialteacher

He can be removed as president of school board since the members vote for that position. But only the regional superintendent can remove him from board. Or perhaps the people in the community can show up and throw a fit. The board is covering up the fact the screwed up! Ther are going to be 3 open positions hopefully good Law abiding citizens will run.

  47. salinecolady

im aware this is off the topic at hand but just couldn’t bare to ignore mr. maynor’s post…. how many mistakes have you made in your past?? Im fairly confident I know of atleast 3 of your so-called mistakes…but news flash buddy, it was your choice, and these should be considered blessings not mistakes! Mistake are something you learn from and i’m certain you’ll never learn. and dont get on your high horse and think that you have a little “fan club” or anything…its just that when your name is brought up with your occupation, one cant help but to stop and ponder how the h*ll such a person were given a position of authority…. disturbing if you ask me… and on another note im verrry thankful that I have never been in your deranged thoughts, because I would begin to wonder what did i ever do to deserve that!

  48. goneforgood

I love when people try to excuse crimes by calling them “mistakes”. They were not mistakes. You intended to do them.
