ISP handles North Counties folks ‘missing’ in South CountiesPosted by Chris Beavers on Monday, July 19th, 2010 @ 11:12 am.
CRAWFORD/GALLATIN Cos.—Just got this in from Scott Isaacs: a press release about two guys from our North Counties region traveling to the South Counties region and prompting the Illinois State Police to be brought in.
On 07-18-10 at approximately 6:00 am, ISP District 19 was contacted by the Crawford Co. Ill. Sheriff’s Dept. in reference to two missing subjects.
Troopers learned that Roger D. Wiseman, male age 55 and Edmond E. Reese, male age 36, from Flat Rock, Ill., had traveled to the Pounds Hollow area in Gallatin Co. to ride the trails on off road motorcycles. Wiseman and Reese failed to return to their residence as expected.
At approximately 6:20 am, District 19 Troopers located Wiseman’s vehicle parked at the Pounds Hollow Beach unoccupied. District 19 then requested assistance from the U.S. Forestry Service, Gallatin Co. ESDA, Shawneetown Fire Dept., Equality Fire Dept., Ridgway Fire Dept., and the Gallatin Co. Sheriff’s Dept.
A Command Post was established at the Pounds Hollow Camping area and search parties were formed. At approximately 9:15 am, search teams were deployed for a grid search of the area.
At approximately 11:30am, Mr. Wiseman and Mr. Reese were located approximately 9 miles from their vehicle. Both subjects were in good health and refused medical treatment. Wiseman indicated that they became disoriented as night fall approached and decided to wait until daylight to find their way back to their vehicle.
(Our note: Actually, that was the way to go for both parties—the lost guys, and the authorities. Stay in place if you get lost so someone can find you; good response on the part of the agencies. Glad it turned out okay for all.)
