TIME TO DUMP THE INCUMBENT: JOHN SHIMKUS HAS COMPETITION IN THE PRIMARY
19TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT—We are relieved to announce that John Shimkus doesn’t have to keep being our representative in congress.

Michael Firsching, Republican candidate for Illinois' 19th Congressional District
This is Michael Firsching.
He is not a lawyer. He is a veterinarian. He has served on many public boards, he has worked in the private sector all his life, he has had a successful business for years, and he is a student of the Constitution. You know, that document that is supposed to be the basis for all that goes on in this country.
In other words, he’s just a common, ordinary guy. Just like the rest of us. He understands what’s going on with our country and he’s interested in it.
This is what we should have as our “representative.” Someone who represents US, who is like a cross-section of those he is going to represent.
NOT a professional politician…like incumbent John Shimkus is.

John "I'm all for term limits...well, okay, not really" Shimkus
Shimkus has been in office for far too long—since 1996. At that time he vowed that representatives such as himself should only serve a couple of terms, then get the hell out (presumably before the corruption set in). Then when he got in there and won a couple of terms, he decided that “for the good of the constiutents,” he needed to “stay on.”
Shimkus just hasn’t done anything really significant for the people of the 20th district (what he was originally elected to) nor for those of the 19th (what became of the district after the census was conducted in 2000 and we lost a congressional district down south).
And the sentiment here is that Shimkus has ceased to become one of us downstaters, representing the people of impoverished little southern Illinois, and has instead been doing whatever he can to enhance his career as a politician.
It might not seem like a big thing…but there are a lot of downstaters who are going to pull a Republican ballot Feb. 2 in order to vote for Judge Lowery for Senate (see upcoming posts).
So while taking the time to do this, those of you who have that ballot need to make sure and stick with the sentiment of “dump the incumbent.” In Shimkus’ case, do it early. Make him a lame duck as of Feb. 3, and cast your vote for the challenger. This is not a paid endorsement, btw. Just an injection of common sense into what has become a ridiculous parody of itself: U.S. politics.

I am so tired of politicians always getting elected…it’d be nice to have some regular people holding offices…
Who is running against him? Nothing is down south about the campaign. Davis ran a pretty good one against him–with very little money gaining 100,000 votes. But how about 2010???
Are you asking who is running against Shimkus on the Dem ticket? If so, we think that’s little Timmy Bagwell from Olney. He is, in our opinion only, a fruitloop.
However, Firsching has to get through the Primary against Shimkus, so folks need to pull a Republican ballot and vote for Firsching. We know south counties will be overwhelmingly Dem, but we’ve got to encourage everyone who doesn’t ordinarily vote in the Primary to GET OUT THERE!!
BTW we supported Davis—he was awesome—we got to hear him speak in Lawrenceville. He should keep it up, he has a great platform.
Yes Bagwell is a NUT. I too supported Davis but will support anyone agains Shimkus. By no means is he a bad guy–he is “good” for the most part. My complaint is that he does nothing–and isn’t a good Congressman supposed to do something?
Anyone but Shamekus!
Our last gov. was an attorney to like this guy hum dont think I would make that mistake again. I am starting to think this paper should be called southern IL Republican. Shimkus has done more for south eastern IL then David Phelps ever did. I do know that he has got several small towns grants that they needed . Shimkus is 1 the few Republican this paper has gave hell. I must also say even tho I dont like it IL could not fund its self at all with out Chi town . Just in case your not aware of it MO. is a Republican state you can always move there if you hate the state of IL which is a primarily a Democrat state.
You don’t know very much about us, do you?
We’re non-partisan. We ARE conservative. We are Constitutionalists, if anything. Unfortunately, the Republican Party–what it used to be, at any rate–more closely reflects that, but as you can see, there are worthless Republicans out there (Shamekus) too. You obviously missed the earlier reference to Dan Davis–a Dem–and how much we were behind him when he ran against Shimkus in 08. It’s not the party, it’s the candidate. Partisan politics is what’s helping destroy this country.
We don’t hate the state of Illinois. We LOVE it. We chose to live here. It just needs reform. The liberal progressives need to have their stranglehold on those of us who just want to live our lives and be sovereign individuals loosened. The rest of the state would make it JUST FINE if Chicago broke off from us…because they don’t have farmland, dairies, or anything else that would actually sustain its population, so they would have to trade with the ‘other Illinois’ in order to survive. And the rest of us would be just fine without having to deal with FOID cards, concealed carry being prohibited, corrupt politicians and all the other shit three counties shovel on the other 99.
So if you don’t like our publication or website, you’re welcome to haul your ass on out of here and don’t come back–it’s as easy as not clicking. In fact, we encourage you to do so.
I do like the article. It is encouraging to see someone has deduced who I am and what I am about from looking at my website.
To address Eve’s point about my campaign down south…I do wish to make an appearance(s) in the southern part of the district but have not been able to find that group which will host me to be available for speaking and answering questions. I am still available if such a group contacts me.
I will be bringing some signs to Dr. Pat York’s veterinary practice next week.
enjoy your publication. I agree that public officials need to be held accountable for the actions by their constituents. I do disagree with you on Shimkus, though. He is pro life, voted no to government health care, no to the bailouts, no to cap and trade, no to higher federal income taxes. As per Firsching’s website http://www.mikefirsching2010.com, he is pro choice, is wish washy his cap and trade commitment and implies the need for some kind of control on population growth?! Shimkus is the conservative in this race and has been accountable for his voting record.
Shamekus also tried to cover up his creepy friend Rep. Foley’s sick e-mails to male teenage pages. He ran the Page Board, yet did nothing. Accountable conservative?
