ATT’N LAWRENCE CO. TAXPAYERS: HERE IT COMES, THIS TIME FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD
As predicted last month, the school board will be approaching the Lawrence County board tomorrow night (11.18.09) at the November full board meeting to request a sales tax be imposed on taxpayers to continue funding the district.

We learned recently that one of the reasons why the county board is imposing up to a 27% increase on this year’s tax levy is that 27% is the MAXIMUM THEY ARE ALLOWED TO IMPOSE according to state law. Nothing like maxing out your taxpayers…we’ll see how much the school board wants. Probably a quarter of a percent, which is a typical sales tax increase request. Problem is, they haven’t been able to pass other sales tax increases in the past when they put them on the ballot…so now a taxing body, like the school board, takes the opportunity to bypass the petition process and just makes the request of the county board for placement on the ballot after passing a resolution.
We’ll see how this goes…and how big the crowd is, in opposition. If any.

There should be a large banner outside the county board room saying “BOHICA” which means “Bend Over, Here It Comes Again”
And no one here will go into what they should hand out at the door…
