Wayne County board chairman Darrell "Durrl" Stephenson, who might know why you can't just close a meeting to the public, but apparently doesn't understand what public documents are  | read this item
It was a repulsive sight last night in Wayne County: county board chairman Darrell ("Durrl") Stephenson was in the hot seat (that seat being heated by former probation officer/current county board member Larry Bunting) about remarks he made to Bunting last month concerning the sheriff and his behavior...which Bunting's wanting to classify as 'official misconduct.'

Looks like it's a go for Raymond Martin, Gallatin County sheriff, to kick off his federal trial April 12. According to court documents signed today by U.S. Magistrate Philip M. Frazier, Martin is still on track to have his federal drugs/weapons/conspiracy/witness tampering trial start Monday, April 12, at 9 a.m. before Judge Gilbert in Benton.

Just when you think things can't get any weirder in southern Illinois, little old Edwards County is seeing bomb threats, this time at the school.

Anybody from Wayne County will know that in certain parts of the county, you can't get away from bad roads...that's because there are certain parts of the county that probably shouldn't have roads.

Disclosure has just learned, via a concerned reader, that East Richland Community Unit School District No. 1 last year censured teacher and former coach Curt Dobbs---heavily.

A public body can't just call a closed meeting or executive session willy-nilly. And yet that is what some in southern Illinois are doing on a regular basis.

Former Hardin County elementary school teacher/high school baseball coach Scott Way has been arrested again in Saline County and charged with violation of terms of his probation.

Another ‘bad cop,’ this time across the river in Indiana

There seems to be a rash of 'bad cop' charges these days...and Indiana doesn't seem immune to the rash. But at least they've got something for it.

Wreck in Harrisburg yesterday (03.05.10); our lovely reader who sent us this pic said that a gal with a little kid ran a stop sign and the cars collided.

A motion for mistrial and new trial has been filed in the case of Tim Monroe, who on Feb. 4, 2010, was found guilty of delivery of cocaine. Despite being out on bond, Monroe was held the night of his conviction and remains in the Saline County Detention Center awaiting sentencing March 23.

The jailed Gallatin County sheriff, who's still collecting his taxpayer-provided paycheck (to the tune of $40,440-plus annually, along with a $6,500 state stipend), was a no-show in Jackson County Circuit Court today.

ricky chek
Mike, left, and Ricky Chekevdia. Doesn't that boy look happy to be with his dad? Or maybe it's just a reaction to dad's hand placement.  | read this item
As if we didn't need another reason to be reminded that at-large Second Judicial Circuit judge Melissa Drew is only a judge because she's not Brian Shinkle, she gave us a big reason yesterday (02.19.10): she ordered custody of Ricky Chekevdia, 7, to be handed over to his father, accused child molester Mike Chekevdia.

Gallatin County sheriff Raymond Martin at January's Jackson County hearing. We didn't get to see him Tuesday but apparently it never ends for the guy...  | read this item
It looks like there'll be no vakay for RayRay. Jailed Gallatin County sheriff Raymond Martin has just been the subject of the federal grand jury in Benton (again), and the grand jury has handed down superceding indictments to add to the ever-growing list of offenses federal authorities believe Martin committed since late 2008.

Steve Vinyard, at left, is accompanied by family members after being called in to the executive session of the Gallatin County school board. Oddly, family were allowed to go into the closed session, for an undisclosed reason.  | read this item
Following an executive session that lasted an hour and ten minutes, Gallatin County schools teacher/coach Steve Vinyard was suspended tonight (03.02.10) with pay for the remainder of the 2009-10 school year

Her daddy should be so proud. Gina Costello/Keen/Terschluse/whatever, daughter of 12th Congressional District U.S. rep Jerry Costello (D-Belleville) and her current husband, Steve Terschluse, accused tax evader and defendant in Local 101's suit against his now-defunct plumbing business, Hirth, for numerous civil infractions that may cost him up to a third of a million dollars, have stepped in it again in St. Clair County court.
